CHAMBER NEWS

BUSINESS MEMBER OF THE MONTH

The Palouse Discovery Science Center (PDSC) is a nonprofit organization that exists to connect children of all ages to their families, communities and the world beyond through interactive STEAM exploration. We envision a future where all children can fulfill their potential and become engaged community members and global citizens, equipped with a strong foundation in science, critical thinking and creativity.

We offer a wide array of facilitated programs including Mudskippers Outdoor Group, regular live science demonstrations and Creativity Lab. We also continue to collaborate with community partners on a monthly Science Pub, Free Family Science Nights and regular outreach events across the Palouse. Birthday parties and private rentals are also popular.

In the past few years, PDSC achieved a few significant milestones. In 2023, PDSC became a member of the Museums for All program, which provides free admission for people receiving food assistance (EBT). PDSC also just recently completed certification through KultureCity as a Sensory Inclusive location. These two initiatives help remove barriers to education for many families. In October 2024, the PDSC had a Silver Jubilee event to celebrate 25 years in operation.

The center operates with a small paid staff, numerous volunteers and a volunteer Board of Directors. As a nonprofit, our operations are largely supported by grants, sponsorships and donations. We are excited to grow our Discovery Partners Program with local businesses and organizations. We will host a Blast-Off Breakfast at the center on September 30 to showcase this program. Please consider joining us!

🎉 Join us in welcoming Shin’s Asian Market to the Pullman Chamber! 🎉

Owned by Bonggum and her husband Park, Shin’s opened its doors over 11 years ago to fill a much-needed gap in the community.

“We noticed there was no Asian specialty foods grocer in Pullman,” said Bonggum. “Customers had to travel to Spokane to get the ingredients they needed.”

Located on Grand Avenue, Shin’s quickly became a go-to destination for international students at WSU and locals alike, carrying authentic food and beverages from Korea, China, Japan and beyond.

With a strong commitment to quality, Shin’s partners with a distributor in Western Washington to source products directly from their countries of origin. Customer favorites include their wide selection of ramen, mochi, sauces and so much more!
