LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Pullman Scholars and Alumni,

As we celebrate the end of another academic year, I am honored to recognize our newest Pullman Scholar graduates for their exceptional achievements and to wish them great success as they pursue new opportunities and aspirations in the years ahead.

The graduating class earned an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.51. Their average student loan debt upon graduation was just $3,867 (compared with the national undergraduate average of $39,075), and 16 graduating seniors reported completing their degrees debt-free. At the conclusion of the 2025–2026 academic year, 22 of the 26 scholars in this cohort (85%) graduated within four years—nearly double the national four-year graduation rate.

Their collective accomplishments reflect not only the determination and talent of the scholars but also the lasting impact of the Pullman community. By reducing financial barriers and offering year-round resources, programming, and mentorship, we help scholars pursue their academic and professional goals with confidence and success.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Pullman Alumni Scholar Selection Committee for their dedication and thoughtful work during this year’s application review process. Their commitment and insight are invaluable to our selection process and help make the Pullman scholarship program truly unique. We look forward to introducing our newest cohort of Pullman Scholars and sharing their college and university destinations in September.

Thank you for your continued support and for carrying forth the Pullman Scholar legacy. Your generosity and engagement make these achievements possible. I wish you a wonderful summer filled with relaxation, sunshine, and memorable moments.

Following up from our Alumni Spotlight feature in our Spring Pullman Press, Vic Andrade completed his 2,400-mile bicycle ride along Route 66 from Santa Monica to Chicago while raising awareness and support for the Foundation. Through his personal outreach efforts, Vic contributed and raised significant financial support from more than 60 friends and family members. He also joined the Pullman Scholar Symposium, where his story and dedication made a strong impression on the scholars. His journey was documented through his blog: https://thelonerider.bike/

Thank you for your incredible dedication to Pullman Scholars, Vic!

“Raising awareness for the Foundation was important to me because of the life-changing support it gives to its scholars. My 17-year-old self just thought that the scholarship was equivalent to working hundreds of hours in the cafeteria. Decades later, my view of the scholarship's value and the Foundation's support of its scholars have become so much more.

Attending the symposium let me see firsthand how well the Foundation has adapted to support these scholars beyond their financial needs. The mentoring and guidance from the alumni that I observed during the symposium will amplify the impact that these new scholars will make in the communities in which they will serve as students, workers, and leaders. It was a thrill to spend time with everyone at the symposium. I am grateful to all my friends, colleagues, and family that supported the foundation through my ride. I am looking for more ways to stay engaged with these amazing scholars. Their achievements, maturity, and leadership skills far exceed what I had at their age.”

2026 PULLMAN SCHOLAR SYMPOSIUM

The 2026 Pullman Scholar Symposium was held on May 21, 2026, at the University of Chicago’s Gleacher Center. Throughout the day, current Pullman Scholars participated in professional development sessions designed to prepare them for success in their future careers. Highlights included an etiquette essentials workshop and a panel discussion featuring recent graduates who shared insights on navigating the transition from college to the workforce and applying professional etiquette in real-world settings.

Beyond skill-building, the Symposium provided valuable opportunities for scholars and alumni to connect, strengthen relationships, and expand their professional networks. These interactions reinforce one of the Foundation’s greatest strengths – a supportive community that fosters mentorship, collaboration, and lifelong connections among Pullman Scholars.

Back by popular demand, the day concluded with an evening river cruise that brought together scholars and alumni for a unique networking and community - building experience surrounded by the spectacular views of our fair city. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year.
