LETTER FROM

OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

ERIC DELLI BOVI

Dear Pullman Educational Foundation Community,

Welcome to our fall edition of the Pullman Press, where we congratulate our new, 73rd Class of Pullman Scholars. This new class of 26 scholars held an average cumulative GPA of 3.87 in high school, and they are majoring in subjects like aviation flight technology, computer science, mechanical engineering, public policy, and psychology. 61% of these students are also the first in their families to attend college. We wish these outstanding young people the best on their new college journey. Thank you to our Alumni Scholar Selection Committee members for their invaluable work in reviewing and interviewing hundreds of applicants throughout the selection process.

The Pullman Educational Foundation’s 2022 Annual Report is now available online on our website. This year, our theme is Pullman Together, drawing from the inspired support and dedication the Foundation gratefully receives from our extensive scholar and alumni community. The effectiveness of our work relies on the collective and sustained efforts of so many individuals coming together with the desire to expand college access and foster a spirit of encouragement and connection for Pullman Scholars.

Thank you to our many donors who generously pay it forward to foster the next generation of leaders through a college degree. If you have not yet donated and as we head into the season of giving, please consider contributing to the Foundation in any amount that is significant to you. Happy holidays and I wish you and your loved ones much happiness, health, and prosperity in the new year.

Sincerely,

Eric Delli Bovi

PULLMAN PROGRAMS

We were so excited to kick off our Scholar Success Seminars this month! Each month, the Foundation hosts a webinar focused on a topic not traditionally taught in the classroom, but that is vital to the future success of our scholars. In September, we were joined by Pullman Scholar Alum and Executive Director of Ladder Up, Phyllis Cavallone-Jurek, who discussed budgeting tips for our current Pullman Scholars. Thanks to Ladder Up for setting our scholars up with the tools they need to budget successfully throughout college!

As one of the first Pullman Educational Foundation Scholars, James F. Stewart, Jr. grew up with strong personal ties to the Pullman community. In 1952, he enrolled in Purdue University’s Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering program and in the USAF Reserve Officers Training Corps. As an active-duty Air Force officer, Stewart went on to earn his MBA at the University of Chicago in 1965.

With numerous opportunities available to him, then-Lieutenant Stewart opted to serve in Vietnam over five air battle campaigns and three tours of duty. Through a life devoted to service to our nation and a successful career in the aerospace industry, Colonel Stewart embodies the spirit of grit and determination that has come to characterize the profile of a Pullman Scholar.
