We are pleased to share our first newsletter of 2026, following a truly meaningful milestone - our 75th Anniversary celebration. This moment offered a powerful opportunity to reflect on our legacy and reaffirm our mission: supporting young people as they work to earn their degrees and build the futures they envision for themselves.
The demand for our scholarships continues to grow. This year, the Foundation received 672 applications - nearly 100 more than last year. Each application represents a motivated student seeking access to higher education and the chance to pursue their goals. The increasing need underscores just how vital this work remains.
Our Pullman Alumni Scholar Selection Committee, now comprised of over 100 dedicated volunteers, is currently reviewing essays and conducting interviews. Their thoughtful evaluation and time commitment are essential to this process, and we are deeply grateful for their service and leadership.
We are especially proud that well over half of our Pullman Scholars are the first in their families to earn a college degree, and that each cohort reflects the rich diversity of Chicago and Cook County. These students bring talent, perseverance, and a strong sense of purpose to their academic journeys.
In addition to financial support, we continue to invest in a comprehensive support system for our scholars. Through monthly check-ins, career and life-skills seminars, and mental health resources, we are strengthening our commitment to meet scholars where they are. Most importantly, we strive to be active and responsive listeners—so we can adapt our programs as the world evolves and new challenges to earning a degree emerge.
Thank you for your continued support and belief in the Pullman mission. We truly could not do this work without you, and we are grateful to partner with you in creating opportunity and changing lives.
