ACA Open Enrollment Updates

Open Enrollment on the ACA's Private Health Insurance Marketplace HealthCare.Gov starts November 1, 2025 and runs through January 15, 2026. There are a few changes to be prepared for this year, like higher premiums and higher out of pocket maximums and immigration eligibility changes. We explain.

Consumers can now window shop HealthCare.Gov. This is in anticipation of Open Enrollment that starts November 1, 2025 despite the ongoing government shutdown. Consumers can review coverage options, see prices and networks, and get organized before it’s time to purchase or switch plans. We explain.

Government Shutdown Updates

The USDA issued a memo to states providing more detail on SNAP benefits during the Government Shutdown. The USDA confirmed: there is no November SNAP benefit; the agency will not use contingency funds to pay for food aid during the shutdown; & people can use any benefits remaining on their Quest cards after Oct. 31. We explain.

On October 24, 2025, the Social Security Administration announced a Cost of Living Adjustment for 2026 Social Security and Supplemental Security Income. The agency expects those benefits to be adjusted beginning Jan. 1, 2026 without delay despite the current government shutdown and lapse in appropriations. We explain.
