"There's no stop to POP!"
San Diego North EDC in partnership with Supervisor Bill Horn, created a visionary roadmap for North San Diego County entitled Prosperity on Purpose (POP). POP is a visionary road map for North County that builds upon its natural resources to become a strong economic driver focused on transportation, research and innovation, entrepreneurship, education, and jobs. POP began with the creation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), which identified 10 key industry clusters for North County:
Agriculture, Biotechnology, Breweries & Wineries,
Clean Technology, Connected tourism, Defense, Education, Innovation and Specialized Manufacturing, High Tech, Sports & Active Lifestyle POP has been and will be the catalyst for regional collaboration and it continues to bring our cities and unincorporated areas together. POP engages all 26 cities, Sovereign Tribal Lands and unincorporated areas of North County to create a unified economic development and job creation strategy based around our key industries. Currently, POP is working on developing white papers to outline its top six grant priorities identified by CEDS. You can read more Read More

MiraCosta College is getting greener
Three years ago, the MiraCosta Community College District launched a comprehensive master planning effort to establish model environmental practices at its three campuses. In January 2011, it created a Sustainability Advisory Committee composed of students, faculty, staff and administrators to oversee and guide the endeavor.

Golf is one of the drivers of the tourist economy
 According to a study by National University System Institute for Policy Research, the estimated golf economy generates more than $2.6 billion annually for the region and accounts for approximately 26,900 jobs. Research also shows that visitors who play golf in San Diego spend an estimated $1.9 million on goods and services, including lodging, dining and non-golf entertainment. |

Escondido City Council boosts efforts to transform creek
 Plans to transform Escondido's barren flood control channel into an inviting creek walk got a boost last week when City Council members approved $547,000 for 88 street lights along the channel. It's the first good news in a long time for supporters of the creek walk proposal, which has suffered a series of setbacks in recent years.
