As we enter the next few months we would like to remind you that masks covering your nose and mouth are required at all times in the library. Please do not come in if you are not feeling well. Veteran's Day Walk

Wednesday, November 11 | 11 AM | Meet on the library lawn

Join us as we walk through the village and talk about the Osterville veterans and visit their monuments.
The walk starts at the library gazebo (the library will be closed) and will be led by Osterville historian Paul Chesbro and Osterville Village Library Director Cyndy Cotton, with a special dedication to David Richardson at Armstrong-Kelley Park.

Last Day to Submit Pumpkins for Pumpkin Contest
|
|
|
Today is the last day to bring in your pumpkin if you want it included in our contest!
Come check out a pumpkin from the library, carve or decorate your pumpkin at home (any way you'd like) and return it to us by October 24th. Voting will take place October 24th-29th. You'll be able to take your pumpkin home on October 30th, and winners will be announced on October 31st.
Ribbons will be awarded for funniest, spookiest, storybook/literary, and most BOO-tiful!
Limit of one pumpkin checkout per family, but feel free to purchase your own pumpkin(s) to submit. Supplies are limited so call 508-428-5757, email ofl_mail@clamsnet.org, or stop by to reserve a pumpkin before they're gone!

Make a Card for a Veteran

The American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces is asking you to help create cards to celebrate veterans in our community for Veterans Day!
We will be collecting these cards until October 31 and distributing them on Veterans Day, November 11. Please drop by our station to make one and show your support!
Please include statements of gratitude, words of encouragement, drawings, colors, quotes, and your name and town. Cards can be submitted in person to the OVL or mailed to Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, 101 Station Landing, Suite 510, Medford, MA 02155.

Virtual Cookie Recipe Swap

The entire staff at the Osterville Village Library invites you to join in our virtual cookie and recipe swap that begins on November 27th and culminates with a Zoom virtual cookie and recipe swap on December 9th at 5:00 PM.
At the end of the Zoom gathering, one lucky participant will win a $50.00 gift certificate that supports one of our local merchants.
To join in the fun after November 27th:
- Bake any one of your amazing favorite cookie recipes (yes, bar-like cookies are great too!)

Email us ofl_mail@clamsnet.org a photo, recipe, and any stories related to your cookie. We will post these on our website and enter you into our drawing for a gift certificate that supports one of our local merchants.
- Get social! Follow us on FB and Instagram, post a photo of your cookies, and use the hashtag #ovlcookies.
- Our OVL virtual cookbook group invites participants to share their cookies at their Zoom gathering on December 9th at 5:00 PM. The drawing for a gift certificate that supports one of our local merchants will take place at 6:00 PM. Participants do not need to attend the Zoom gathering to win. Winner will be notified via email.
Bakers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. We will have books and STEM activities related to cooking available in our Children's Room.

Submissions are now open for the Massachusetts Letters About Literature program.
Letters About Literature in Massachusetts is a commonwealth-wide personal and reflective writing initiative sponsored by the Massachusetts Center for the Book. The program invites students in Grades 4 through 12 to read a book of their choice, reflect on it, and write a personal letter to its author, explaining the impact this work had on them.
Letters may be submitted individually by students or by teachers, librarians, or writing centers. Entries will be accepted online or in hardcopy from October 1, 2020 until January 15, 2021. There is an awards celebration each year at the Massachusetts State House.

Grab and go worksheets
We add different sheets to our display regularly so come pick up a couple to keep the kids active and engaged!
We try to keep a mixture of outdoor activities, crafts, and educational activities.

The book store is open
We have started accepting donations of very gently used books that were published in the last 3 years.
That means the book store is open and stocked, so come look around! As a reminder, the book store is open whenever the library is open.
