Dear Friends of the Purchase Community House,

I hope everyone in your home is safe and healthy and persevering. I feel the greatest challenge throughout all of this is the unknown. It is hard to keep moving forward without knowing where the finish line is.  

Governor Cuomo announced last week that he is closing schools for the remainder of the year. While it is good to finally know for sure, it also means that the Purchase Community House will not re-open after school programs this spring. We will continue our cooking challenges and at home activities through Memorial Day.

Some of you are eligible for refunds from classes or the bus or the annual membership. You will receive a separate email outlining the amounts and the process for receiving the refund. As I said in a previous email, this pandemic is causing a significant strain on the finances of the House. We have lost the spring after school season which is a third of our revenue for the year. As a not for profit that receives no financial support from any governmental tax dollars, this is a major impact. 

If you would consider converting all or part of your refundable paid fees into a donation, we would be eternally grateful. Several families have already asked us to convert their potential refunds to a donation. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible as provided by law. If you are so inclined, please email Tom Havard at thavard@purchasehouse.com and he will make the adjustment and send you a tax donation letter.
