|First Women's Energy Auditing Course Held at The Pure Energy Center|
Friendships were formed and careers were launched!
The all-women Energy Auditing course to prep women for the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst tests toward certification was a huge success! Teaching and learning was extremely personalized. Hands-on demonstrations and practice were easy and plentiful due to the small class size.
The class performed full energy audits on three different types of houses: A double-wide mobile home; a high efficiency modular home; and a site built house. Each building provided a different learning experience. After the course the students took their BPI Building Analyst exams.

2011 PPL WRAP Forum
A good time was had by all!
Every year, PPL program managers have a meeting where their WRAP contractors get to hear about the program successes, challenges, goals, and procedural improvements. For the past couple years, PPL has invited their contractors to share best practices for the benefit of the group and the program. This year, our own COACH Hands-On and On-Site traveling training and testing lab was at the Forum.
PPL managers saw the benefit to all the contractors that COACH could provide while on site at the Forum. About 40 PPL managers and contractors toured COACH, where they saw it's training modules, including combustion testing on three different types of furnaces; water heater parts; air leakage and zone testing displays; duct testing capabilities; infrared lessons; and exhaust ventilation measurement.
COACH is available to train YOUR staff and contractors too!
|First Energy Building Science for Managers Presentation
Managers Learn Basics of Building Science, Tour COACH
Because First Energy's energy efficiency program managers wanted a better understanding of why their program contractors do so many tests and use so much diagnostic equipment, the requested we give them a half day presentation about the basics of building science and then follow up with a tour of COACH. Fifteen First Energy staff got the low-down and a solid description on the importance of properly testing a building before the installation of materials to be sure that the installation of the materials won't make an existing problem worse... or even create a new problem.
The efficiency program's purpose is to seal up buildings so they use less energy; improve the efficiency of the appliances and HVAC; and teach the people who live in the buildings how to use it and everything in it so they use the least amount of energy for the same benefit. All of this is done in a way that keeps everyone safe and healthy - that is why we test before AND after modifications are made.
First Energy's staff understands the sometimes delicate balance that their contractors have to keep when working on their customer's homes. They now know even more... thanks to our Building Science for Managers presentation and COACH.
|BPI Heating Professional Training and Testing Toward Certification|
Pure Energy Coach LLC with backing from the Lancaster-Berks Workforce Investment Board held an awesome course in September in Lancaster. We hired Bob Kahabka to be the primary trainer. Bob was supported by an incredible team which included Larry Armanda and Charles Kern from Therma-View Infrared and Energy Consultants and Matt Gote from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. COACH, our mobile training and testing repurposed motor home was on site, and we spent an afternoon in the amazing heating lab at Stevens. Everyone learned a bunch and had a very good time learning.
The course topics included: Use of a duct tester such as the Duct Blaster; identifying different heating systems; how to properly test heaters for safe and efficient operation; venting requirements; sizing standards; and more.
