FENCES
August Wilson
!Encore Production!
February 22-25, 2024
Troy Maxson is a garbage collector who prides himself on his ability to provide for his family and keep it together. He is the patriarch and central character in Fences, (1950-1965), he continually places barriers between himself and the very people he loves the most. Troy’s rebellion and frustration set the tone for this play as he struggles for a sense of fairness in a society that offers none. He and his son clash over their conflicting views of what it means to be a black man in mid-century America. The PURE LIFE THEATRE 2022 production of this show was shortened because of COVID-19 and due to so many requests to see the production - Pure Life is bringing members of its original cast back for this encore performance.
Pure Life family:Tamar Davis, Jennifer Ijeoma, Deb Royals, and Verlene Oates and (far right) ESC's Robin Rice.
THANK YOU ESC!
Pure Life Theatre is a recipient of a City of Raleigh ARPA grant managed by ESC. The grant process included nine months of weekly work with Executive Service Corps of the Triangle. The work included board development and strategic planning. The final piece included a full guided organizational assessment of the company. The work completed and the funds received will have a long-lasting impact on Pure Life and its work in the community.
The Pure Life Theatre Family is deeply grateful to the arts community and those who support the work.
