Oceanside’s NEW Source of Water
May 2021
Pure Water Oceanside will purify recycled water to create a new, local
source of high-quality drinking water that is clean, safe, drought-proof
and environmentally sound. The project will produce enough water to
provide more than 30% of the city’s water supply.
Celebrate Water Awareness Month With New 360-Degree Water Video
To celebrate “Water Awareness Month” this May and highlight the value of water, the City of Oceanside has unveiled its NEW virtual reality video tour! This 360-degree video shows the water recycling process that prepares water for Pure Water Oceanside.

Now you can experience an immersive tour of the San Luis Rey Water Reclamation Facility, where water for Pure Water Oceanside will be sourced. The virtual 360-degree video allows you to engage and look ALL AROUND by simply using a computer mouse or touch screen or simply moving your phone! Viewers who have a virtual headset for cell phones can take it one step further by “stepping into” the video like a simulation.

Pure Water Oceanside Facility Taking Shape
The construction of the Pure Water Oceanside building containing the purification equipment is making dramatic progress. Located off of North River Road at the San Luis Water Reclamation Facility, the Pure Water Oceanside, when fully implemented, will create more than 30 percent of the City's drinking water supply.
How Does Pure Water Oceanside's Purified Water Flow?
Pure Water Oceanside will purify recycled water treated at the San Luis Rey Water Reclamation Facility (SLRWRF). The recycled water will undergo state-of-the-art water purification processes including filtration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light with advanced oxidation.

The purified water will then be transported from SLRWRF down Douglas Dr. to Pala Rd. and ultimately to the Coco Palms and Alipaz Ct. communities where it will be injected into the Mission Basin Aquifer and blended with the naturally occurring groundwater in the aquifer. The water will be extracted and treated at the Mission Basin Groundwater Purification Facility and then distributed to Oceanside water customers.

Once fully developed Pure Water Oceanside will supply three to five million gallons of drinking water each day. This is enough water to provide 32% of the City of Oceanside’s water supply.

Well and Pipeline Work Update

Two injection wells and two monitoring wells have been constructed on Coco Palms and work is ongoing to build the infrastructure around these wells. Tests showed a third well was needed and is now in progress on Alipaz Ct. A purified water pipeline will be installed from Pala Rd. down Rio Vista Dr. to Alipaz Ct. which is likely to be scheduled later this year. Check out our online interactive map to see more details.
Repaving is Looking Great on North River Road!
The City would like to thank ALL residents and businesses off of North River Road for your patience during pipeline work.

The City went beyond required paving requirements and paved the entire lane impacted by the pipeline work to offer a smooth driving experience for drivers.
Oceanside is committed to providing high-quality drinking water to your tap each and every day for less than a penny a gallon.
