Oceanside’s NEW Source of Water Pure Water Oceanside will purify recycled water to create a new, local source of high-quality drinking water that is clean, safe, drought-proof and environmentally sound. Pure Water Oceanside is ON THE MAP and Under Construction! The City of Oceanside has officially started construction on Pure Water Oceanside! Scheduled to begin operating in 2022, Pure Water Oceanside will be the FIRST operating advanced water purification project in San Diego County. Project construction includes building an advanced water purification facility next to the San Luis Rey Water Reclamation Facility (SLRWRF) and a pipeline from the SLRWRF down North River Rd., Douglas Dr. and into Coco Palms where three injection wells will be installed. Work to construct the water pipelines under Douglas Drive and North River Road began in June 2020. Work in CoCo Palms will begin in fall 2020.  Construction Hours Regular construction hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with occasional work on Saturdays. Critical elements of the project require temporary activities to occur 12 hours a day, 6 days a week to ensure the project is completed on time. Contract Updates Pure Water Oceanside is a multi-phased and multi-disciplinary project that integrates several engineering and construction specialties. The City is currently in the initial phase which includes water treatment, conveyance, and groundwater recharge elements. On August 5th Oceanside's City Council approved several contracts for the Pure Water Conveyance and Injection Project.  Future business opportunities for this and other City projects will be coming in the future. City Receives Funding to Help Build and Operate Pure Water Oceanside

$25 Million Local Resources Program Coming together in support of the Pure Water Oceanside project, the Metropolitan Water District and the San Diego County Water Authority announced the agencies will fund operating costs of approximately $25 million for the project over the next 15 years through a Local Resources Program.

$3.11 million Department of Water Resources: Proposition 1  The City will receive $3.115 million for Pure Water Oceanside in state grant funding from the Department of Water Resources (DWR). “Maximizing local water supply reliability is important to Oceanside,” said Cari Dale, Water Utilities Director, City of Oceanside. “We’re grateful for the funding from DWR to be able to continue our efforts to reduce Oceanside’s reliance on imported water while minimizing the impact to rate payers.” Click here to learn more.

Recognition Awarded for Communication and Water Reuse Planning The City of Oceanside received two awards in July recognizing the city's public communication and water reuse efforts. Named Recycled Water Agency of the Year for small systems by the WateReuse Association, the city was recognized as a leading agency to develop recycled water on a significant level as an alternative water source within and beyond its service area. The city’s water reuse program will expand water recycling and advanced water purification to meet the city's goal of using 50 percent of its water supplies locally by 2030. In addition, the City won an EPIC (Excellence in Public Information and Communications) award from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) for the Pure Water Oceanside Communication Plan. The plan outlined public outreach and education efforts for the project including a public and school tour program and the March 2019 World of Water community event. The tour program and public events have been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
