GLAAD Spirit Day To Support LGBTQIA+ Youth
Thank you students and staff for standing against bullying and supporting LGBTQ youth for GLAAD's Spirit Day on Thursday. According to GLSEN's 2021 National School Climate Survey, 97% of LGBTQ+ students heard “gay” used in a negative way (e.g., “that’s so gay” or "no homo") at school and 93.7% reported that they felt distressed because of this language. Additionally, the survey found that only 11% of LGBTQ+ students reported that school staff intervened most of the time or always when overhearing homophobic remarks at school.

Be an Active Ally for LGBTQIA+ youth today and every day!

National Bullying Prevention Month
This month, we take a moment to celebrate National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave individuals feeling hopeless. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge it, we can change it. And it starts with us. Whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need. Our Library Department has provided this "Choose Kindness" List of ebooks and audiobooks from Sora about preventing bullying and spreading kindness.
East High School Counselor Receives Equity Award
Congratulations to East High School Counselor, Sarah Elmore, for winning the WSCA (WI School Counselor Association) Equity in Action award for this year. Sarah is doing amazing work with our counseling team as the AVID Counselor and is also working hard in supporting all of our AVID students both in and out of class to be college, career and community ready. This is her 21st year in education (she was first a Social Studies teacher) and is now in her 9th year as a School Counselor. Sarah has had an incredible impact on the East community since her very first year here as a World History Teacher. Sarah works hard every day to support our students and families in order to bring East's equity vision to life.
