Check Out This Week's Tower TV Episode #4
In this episode, Simon and Malik anchor, with Daniel's feature on mother-son World Languages teachers Senor and Madame Hesse, Mimi's animated interview with the yearbook editor in chief Ruby Marine about photo deadline reminders, Ashlie and Areey's feature on interesting quarantine purchases, Malik's interview with Mr. Kearney about upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences, our joke of the month from Mr. Saltzman and, of course, the announcements produced by Simon.
Parent/Teacher Conferences - November 17th & 18th
Sign-up for Parent/Teacher Conferences is under way! Parents should have received an invite to sign-up for conferences via email. Student's schedules and teacher contact information are available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal online and can be accessed on a mobile device with the "Campus Parent" app (instructions).
East Library Book Requests and Pickups Begin Soon!
Students who would like to borrow books from our school library (not textbooks or books from a teacher), can sign into Follett Destiny in ClassLink to make requests. Here is a 2-minute video (versión española) and handout (versión española) explaining the process. Bonus: Students can also request a surprise bag of 3 books chosen by the librarian if they are unsure what they're looking for.

Here are the logistics:
  • Make requests by Monday afternoon each week. The first deadline will be 11/16.
  • The Librarian will send students an email to confirm pick-up instructions on Tuesday.
  • There will be a bag with the student's name on it left in a bin by the entrance doors of the N. 4th St. parking lot on Wednesdays between 1:00-3:30pm.
  • Students may check out 7 books at a time. There will be a book return bin in the same location for books that students are finished with.

Reminder: if students are in need of a textbook/materials for one of their courses, that goes through the Textbook/Materials Request, which is different from the library book pick up.
Expressions Literary & Arts Magazine Submissions
Students interested in having their work published in East's Winter Literary & Arts Magazine, "Expressions," should submit pieces by December 1st.
December Youth Business Mentoring Program
Common Wealth Development is going to be offering another completely virtual round of their Youth Business Mentoring Program. Topics include personal branding, personality exploration and how that relates to work, career exploration, job applications, financial literacy, and much more. To be considered, completed applications (including BOTH the Youth Application and a Parent Application) should be submitted by 5:00 PM on Friday, November 20th, 2020 to ashley.h@cwd.org.

Students will complete a virtual intake prior to training starting during the week of November 30th. Training begins via Zoom on Monday, November 30th, 2020 and will go through Friday, December 11th, 2020 from 4:00-5:00 PM each afternoon. Upon program completion, each student will be paired with a mentor who will meet with them to discuss their goals for working and what they’d like to pursue for employment. CWD will serve as a reference for students and assist them in getting hired at a part-time job, and then work with them to ensure it’s a successful placement. Upward Bound College Preparation Program
East High School is currently recruiting 9-12th grade students who want to go to college to be part of the Upward Bound program. The program provides tutoring, academic advising, homework help, and ACT Prep and helps students research colleges and career paths, takes students on field trips to visit the schools of interest, and visit campuses and professional job sites. In order to be eligible for UB, students must qualify for free or reduced lunch and/or be the first in their family to earn a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree. We cannot accept current AVID participants, since those students are also receiving extensive college-prep support. Interested students should email our UB Advisors, Megan Cancila (mcancila@fsc-corp.org) or Brenda Yang (byang@fsc-corp.org), for more information!
