Thank you to everyone (Ms. Sonnemann & her ProStart chefs, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Sista's Chicken & Fish, and many others) who helped our Black Student Union pull off Monday's Soul Food Luncheon! This was a great way to wind down Black History Month, and everyone's efforts toward making it a reality are so very much appreciated!

East GSA's Inaugural Drag Show
East was excited to show our unwavering support for our LGBTQIA+ scholars, staff, and community with our first Drag Show last week, coordinated by East's Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA). The show included theatrical performances with singing, lip-syncing and dancing. One GSA student commented, "There were a few setbacks on the way to making this show happen, but I'm so glad we had it. The performers were so funny and creative, and all of us in the audience were having just as much fun as they were. With all the anti-LGBTQ+ stuff flying around, it was amazing to be in that theater where there was nothing but celebration of the queer community. There wasn't a second in that performance when I wasn't enjoying myself, and I'm so excited to have it again next year!"

Dr. Jenkins, MMSD Superintendent, recently said, “Through the power of education, we will continue to resist homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, racism, sexism, ableism, and all forms of injustice and hate.” He said it is, “our collective goal and responsibility as a school community to co-create safe and inclusive learning spaces where ALL students feel they belong.”

One of East's GSA's goals for this show was to show our community that EVERY one has a right to be accepted and supported, whoever they are. "LGBTQIA+ folkx should feel that they can be safe, visible, comfortable, and confident everywhere they go. That is what being culturally responsive actually means."

A huge thank you to all that made this event possible!
