Puster Elementary Principal Message
November 8, 2018
Thanksgiving Lunch is a special day each year at Puster. Today was a great way to start the holiday season. As good as the food was, and it was fantastic, it was great to see the fellowship among families.

We tried a new “Fast Pass” system today to sign in our guests. If you have any feedback, we would love to hear from you. Please email me directly with any comments.

We will have our Veterans’ Day assembly at 8:15 am on Monday. If you are attending and would like to utilize the “Fast Pass” system, see more information below.

I hope to see you at the football game and/or volleyball games this weekend. Go Leopards!

Pride in Puster,
Kevin

Veterans' Day Fast Pass

With the increased security measures the district is taking to ensure the highest level of safety on campuses, we will be asking all family and friends who attend the Veterans’ Day Assembly to follow standard procedures and sign in when they arrive on campus next Monday, November 12.

Our system will allow us to pre-print a visitor sticker for you if you have already used our new sign-in system this year. By doing this, you may skip the line by requesting a “Fast Pass” prior to next Monday. If you have not signed in with us yet this year and would like to use the “Fast Pass” option, you can stop by the campus before the end of the day on Friday, November 9, to sign in. Please use the link below to request your “Fast Pass”.

All visitors will be required to show their driver’s license regardless of if you use the “Fast Pass” option or not.

Thank you in advance for helping us take care of our most prized possession at Puster, your kids.

Watch D.O.G.S. 2.0 "Another Year, Another 100"
Take a day or ½ day to be a hero for your child. Get your picture on the Puster Watch D.O.G.S. wall with your child.

Signup below for your day. Let’s see how fast we can fill this up.

What is WATCH D.O.G.S. and how do you participate?

Watch D.O.G.S. is a program that helps bring dads and other male role models into our school. Dad's spend a day with their child at school and get to interact alongside the teachers, help with carpool, monitor hallways, help out in the classroom, help with specials...the possibilities are endless.
Have you completed the districts background check?

Lovejoy ISD Volunteer process for the 2018-2019 school year is not yet open. Should be soon.
Each Watch D.O.G. dad is encouraged to wear a Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt on the day he is volunteering at the school. Your child/children may also want a "My Hero" shirt to wear that day too. Below is the link to purchase your t-shirts. Watch D.O.G. t-shirts are not required but it's encouraged.

Here is the link to purchase your t-shirts:

Library Lowdown
Book Clubs
It is time for another round of book clubs! Because The Notebook of Doom series has been so popular at Puster, we are going to introduce some additional series to our readers. We have titles in each of the following series in our library, but you will want to purchase a copy of the selected book club book for your student so that he/she is able to fully participate and keep up with the reading assignments each week.

We will meet for three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We may not finish the books in that time frame, but we are hopeful that we will kindle some interest in the books and series in time for the holiday break.

Students will be encouraged to sign up on the library website with a simple Google form. Here is the plan for each club:

Second Grade:  Geronimo Stilton #1, The Discovery of America by Geronimo Stilton, meeting on Tuesdays during lunchtime
Third Grade:  Ranger in Time #4, Race to the South Pole by Kate Messner, meeting on Wednesdays during lunchtime
Fourth Grade : Gregor the Overlander #1 by Suzanne Collins, meeting on Thursdays during lunchtime

The last day to sign up will be Friday, November 23.

Please contact Mrs. Smithwick with any questions.

Save Your Boxtops
Welcome back to school! Don't forget to save those box tops when you are back to school shopping. There is a new box top collection container in the school lobby that you can drop your box tops in. You can bring them with you to meet the teacher or when school starts again, just remember to put your teachers name on the bag or envelope so your class will get the credit for them for the fall contest. You can turn in all of your box tops in this container. You do not need to take them to your classroom any more (just don't forget to write your class on it). In November we get to see which grade brings in the most box tops and which class gets the box top trophy for bringing in the most!! Thank you for always keeping an eye out for box tops to earn money for our school.

Tutoring 101
Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the Circle of Partners . Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.

Lovejoy Letter Campaign
A Message from the Lovejoy Letter Liaison

Dear Campus Families:

We need your help to let our teachers and staff know how much our Lovejoy ISD community values them and the impact they have on our children! Teachers’ salaries include a 1 ½% payment (annual compensation) on the Friday before Thanksgiving break. In addition to the payment the staff receives, we would like to include a handwritten letter from Lovejoy families expressing gratitude and appreciation to each teacher and staff member on our campuses.

We would be so grateful if you would write a letter or letter(s) to any teacher(s) or staff member(s), either current or past, who have played a valuable role in your child(ren)’s educational experience. Please clearly label the envelope with the teacher’s/staff name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return it to the front office of the applicable school by Friday, November 9.

The letter campaign has become a meaningful Lovejoy tradition. We appreciate the time and effort your contributions will make to this year’s letter campaign. Remember #shortandsweet #showappreciation.

Sincerely,
Lovejoy Letter Liaison
