Puster Elementary Principal Message
March 21, 2019
Next week begins our KG roundup. We use this week to get as many kindergarten students registered for the upcoming school year as possible so we can determine how many staff members will be needed. In the event we need to add a teacher, it is always best to hire that person before we get to the summer. If you know of any families who will have kindergarten age students in the 2019-2020 school year, please encourage them to register next week.

Have a great weekend.

 Pride in Puster
Kevin

Book Fair Update
Thank you to our volunteers and patrons of the Spring Book Fair! Book fairs are fantastic fundraisers for our library collection and programs. We are able to take a portion of the proceeds and buy new books for our shelves. Mrs. Peabody is working diligently to process over 150 new books selected from the fair. Additionally, we use some of the profits to fund the purchase of award winning titles from the annual Texas 2x2 and Bluebonnet lists. After book purchases are made, any remaining funds are dedicated to the makerspace. We appreciate your support of the book fair and want you to know that your purchases not only enrich your home libraries but also have a direct and immediate impact in our library.

We will have one more fair this year-- the BOGO book fair! Scholastic has kindly offered to provide a Buy One Get One free fair in May so that our students can stock up for summer reading. We don't earn proceeds for the library from the BOGO fair, but we are thrilled to have kids walk into summer with books they are excited to read. More information coming soon about this fair and our summer reading program!

Harmony Grove
The Puster community donated nearly $500 in cash and change for Harmony Grove. We used this money to buy some of the most popular titles from our fair for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade library at HGSD. We were also able to send some additional materials that have been weeded from our library. We weed books for various reasons, including condition, age, content relevancy, and multiple copies of titles. We boxed up the best of these weeded books to send to Arkansas. When the Lovejoy and Hart librarians heard about Harmony Grove, they did the same, and the picture below shows the size of the shipment that made its way from our community to Harmony Grove. Thank you so much for your support and participating in this #pusterkind activity with your kids.

Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling

Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy’s Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student’s social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Tutoring 101
Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the Circle of Partners . Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.
  • Specialize in working with individual students and their specific needs
