Puster Elementary Principal Message
March 28, 2019
I have not been looking forward to having to put something together for this email. I just want this community to know how honored I am to have been able to be a part of helping you make school memories over the past four years. I have learned so much from all of the dedicated parents and staff that I can take and apply to so many parts of my life going forward. I do know that this school and community hold a special place in my heart. The special parts of this school are the staff members that put so much thought, preparation, and passion into preparing a school experience that I feel is unrivaled. The parents’ unwavering trust and support allow teachers to challenge and push students to achieve in the classroom. Because of this, Puster will continue to be a place where your children sprint from the car line and buses in the morning to get to their classrooms. The smiles on students’ faces will continue to light up the halls. The parking lot will be full of activity when there is a school event. Most importantly, your children will be prepared to take on whatever LISD has in store for them beyond Puster Elementary School.

From the bottom of my heart, “Thank you” for letting me be a small piece of the puzzle.

 Pride in Puster
Kevin

Watch D.O.G.S. 2.0 "Another Year, Another 100"
Take a day or ½ day to be a hero for your child. Get your picture on the Puster Watch D.O.G.S. wall with your child.

Signup below for your day. Let’s see how fast we can fill this up.

What is WATCH D.O.G.S. and how do you participate?

Watch D.O.G.S. is a program that helps bring dads and other male role models into our school. Dad's spend a day with their child at school and get to interact alongside the teachers, help with carpool, monitor hallways, help out in the classroom, help with specials...the possibilities are endless.
Have you completed the districts background check?

Lovejoy ISD Volunteer process for the 2018-2019 school year is not yet open. Should be soon.
Each Watch D.O.G. dad is encouraged to wear a Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt on the day he is volunteering at the school. Your child/children may also want a "My Hero" shirt to wear that day too. Below is the link to purchase your t-shirts. Watch D.O.G. t-shirts are not required but it's encouraged.

Library Lowdown
Make a Book Face!
Spring Fever is beginning to hit, and we want to keep kids engaged with books and our library. Take a look around your house, the public library, a book store and find a book cover with a face or head. Take a picture and send it our way for display! You can print at home or send an email to  alison_smithwick@lovejoyisd.net . Here are a few examples to get the wheels turning...

Book Fair Update
Thank you to our volunteers and patrons of the Spring Book Fair! Book fairs are fantastic fundraisers for our library collection and programs. We are able to take a portion of the proceeds and buy new books for our shelves. Mrs. Peabody is working diligently to process over 150 new books selected from the fair. Additionally, we use some of the profits to fund the purchase of award winning titles from the annual Texas 2x2 and Bluebonnet lists. After book purchases are made, any remaining funds are dedicated to the makerspace. We appreciate your support of the book fair and want you to know that your purchases not only enrich your home libraries but also have a direct and immediate impact in our library.

We will have one more fair this year-- the BOGO book fair! Scholastic has kindly offered to provide a Buy One Get One free fair in May so that our students can stock up for summer reading. We don't earn proceeds for the library from the BOGO fair, but we are thrilled to have kids walk into summer with books they are excited to read. More information coming soon about this fair and our summer reading program!

Educational Game Donation
In keeping with our #PusterKind initiative, we have another opportunity to make an impact at Burks Elementary (the same McKinney Title 1 Elementary school for which we did the Angel tree at Christmas). They need educational games for their classrooms and we believe that our community can make a difference for them by supplying them with this need. Please bring in any complete games that you no longer need or new games that you feel led to purchase. There will be a collection bin in the atrium to collect all your donations. We truly appreciate your kindness.

Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling

Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy’s Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student’s social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Tutoring 101
Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the Circle of Partners . Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.
