STAFFING UPDATE:
I continue to interview candidates for our open Pre-K position and Assistant Principal position. I am excited about the educators I have met so far and I will keep you posted as positions are finalized.

This week, we learned that our Instructional Media Specialist, Alison Smithwick, will be taking advantage of an opportunity for new experiences. You may or may not know that Alison has been working on her doctorate this year. She has chosen to take a position she feels will further the work she is doing in her doctoral program and on her dissertation. I will, of course, be working to find someone with the same visionary outlook and follow-through that Alison has brought to our staff and students during her time at Puster!

Yesterday, our students had a special treat provided by our PTA: The YUCK! Science Show. It was very hands-on and entertaining - a great dinnertime topic of conversation! Thank you Puster PTA!

If I don't get the chance to tell you in person, please allow me to extend my heartfelt "thank you." Thank you for entrusting us with your kids each day and thank you for all of YOUR contributions in making this school year the BEST. I am truly #pusterproud.

Pride in Puster,
Holly

NEW! Medications at School
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer. Some of these medications may not have been picked up after a field trip.

Please remember, if your child is going to continue being medicated at school during the 2018-2019 school year, you will need to complete a new medication sheet at that time and bring a SMALL or travel size bottle of medicine that is not expired.
Important News from Student Nutrition Regarding Student Meal Accounts
All accounts need to have a balance to be purchase a lunch.
This is a courtesy message from Lovejoy Student Nutrition Services to inform households of an upcoming change in student meal accounts. In an effort to minimize negative balances at the end of the school year, beginning Wednesday, May 8 and for the remainder of the school year, students will no longer be able to charge meals which will result in the student incurring a negative balance to their meal account. Students may continue to use their lunch accounts as long as they have money in the account. Households with students who currently have negative balances will receive reminder emails and phone calls. Federal regulations prohibit us from rolling over negative balances to the next school year. Please make arrangements to remit payment for any negative lunch accounts your child may have incurred.

All positive balances will be rolled over to next school year. If you have a graduating senior, funds may be transferred to any sibling in the school district. To request a meal account refund, please complete a refund request form located on the Student Nutrition website. For assistance, please contact Student Nutrition at 469.742.8041.

Student Nutrition Services thanks you for your understanding and for allowing us to serve your student(s) this school year.

Summer Reading

Parents, the Lovejoy ISD Summer Reading Challenge is here! Your students have been challenged to read 1000 minutes during the summer. That is the equivalent of 20 minutes a day, five days a week, for ten weeks. To track their minutes, the district will be using a new website called Biblionasium. Think of it as a GoodReads for kids!

Students can create their own custom bookshelf full of books that they have read or want to read. It can be found at www.biblionasium.com . Students will chose “Login Using Destiny” and use their same login as they would use to login to a computer here on campus.

Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling

Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy’s Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student’s social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please  click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Tutoring 101
Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the  Circle of Partners. Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.
