Here are some of the benefits of having houseplants:
--They take in carbon dioxide and 'breathe' out oxygen -- just the opposite of human beings! Great synergy!
--They put humidity into the air. Houseplants release up to 97% of their moisture into the atmosphere -- they are like natural humidifiers (assuming you have enough of them together)
--They help purify the air as they remove up to 87% of toxins each 24 hour period
--There are studies that indicate improved health benefits for being in rooms with plants -- these studies cite a 60% drop in sickness when employees work around plants and a 70% greater attentiveness for students in classes filled with plants
How many plants do you need to achieve benefits? A good rule of thumb is one large plant for every 100 square feet of living space.
Most of my clients have a green thumb. They take a great amount of pride and/or satisfaction over how their plants grow and thrive all season long.
I however have the proverbial black thumb. I can't grow or nurture a plant to save my soul. Even my window box herbs look pitiful. Oh, believe me I've tried. I've read books and worked with horticulturists and spent hours online researching how to grow this plant or another; all to no avail.
It is pathetic. It's a wonder my kids grew up healthy, given my lack of nurturing skills!
No matter how green a homeowner's thumb though, eventually it becomes summer and that's when problems set in.
We recommend a thermostat setting of 85 degrees during the summer and of course all window treatments are closed to keep out as much sun and heat as possible.
That means houseplants, which thrive on sun and water, can and do suffer during the summer months; oftentimes dying despite our best efforts to keep them alive.
A dying houseplant feels like a lost loved one. We love them, we coddle them, we do our best to treat them well, and still they die. What to do? What to do?
Well, now we believe we've solved this problem! We have instituted a new program that allows our clients to rent or buy houseplants of all types and sizes and they will be tended to by our professional plant technicians.
Here is how this program works: If a client purchases houseplants, they can sign up to have our plant technician water and feed each plant insuring they stay at their healthiest. If, despite our best care, a plant dies, it will be replaced.
During the summer months, these plants will be removed and stored in a temperature controlled environment along with all the loving care they can take. Then, come season, we will return the same plants to our homeowners who can once again enjoy a home filled with green leaves and happiness.
Or, instead of purchasing plants, they may be rented. Yes, rented! Rental plants come with the maintenance service and they too will be removed and replaced each season so you get the healthiest and most beautiful plants every year.
Instead of putting artificial plants and trees in your home, why not enjoy living, breathing, beautiful greenery!?!
And speaking of beautiful greenery -- if you would like a decorated Christmas or Holiday tree this year NOW IS THE TIME TO RESERVE IT. Our holiday trees go very quickly. They come in a variety of heights and colors. For the best selection, contact us now. There will be very few options left by the end of September so please don't wait.
Our houseplant program is designed so you too can enjoy houseplants and know they will stay alive! GO GREEN THIS YEAR!
