Tips For Success
This week we’re sharing tips for success from Angie Tener, an occupational therapist who organizes Autism Acceptance Month activities every year for The Children’s Center of Monmouth County.
Last year, Angie accepted a proclamation from the New Jersey State Board of Education on behalf of Autism New Jersey recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month.
Angie's Tips:
-
Consumables! People love food, especially a treat during the workday. Bake sales have been a huge success, raising almost $1,000 last year. Be sure to have options available; gluten free, vegan, low sugar. Don't forget to give them a Level Up sticker to show they supported the fundraiser.
-
Use the promotional materials as freebies with reminders/save the dates for upcoming support opportunities: dress down days, change for change, bake sales, etc. I have found that people need lots of reminders.
-
Involve everyone: nothing about us without us!! My students make and sell items to staff on campus during Autism Awareness Month. April has become synonymous with Autism Awareness Fundraiser Month for everyone.

“I love to pour my heart into the month of April at the Children's Center of Monmouth County,” Angie says. “We love our students with autism and this fundraiser highlights that. The whole school works together to collect funds for Autism New Jersey. It is a special time for everyone.”
What is your advice for hosting an event or fundraiser? We’d love to hear from you. Please email your top 3 tips and an accompanying photo to aamonth@autismnj.org.
