Businesses are ever evolving and the workforce skills they need seem always in flux too. However, with Baby Boomer generation retirements clipping along at 10,000 per day, this is opening several jobs that relied upon skill sets that have not evolved all that much over the years.
“If you’re looking for a career that doesn't require a college degree, pays six figures and offers strong job security, you might want to brush up on your typing skills.”
In a CNBC story released this morning, court reporters, “often referred to as guardians of the record, play a critical role in the U.S. legal system, producing accurate, impartial transcripts of legal proceedings.” The story goes on to say that the profession is short about 5,000 reporters.
Now before you get too excited, “to become certified nationally, a court reporter must be able to pass a state-approved exam and demonstrate that they can type at least 225 words per minute as two voices speak.” 225 words per minute?! Is that even possible?! I top out at about 50 words per minute and cannot even imagine what 225 even sounds like. Thank goodness the State Chamber didn’t make me take a typing test!
