Here’s a brief recap of the presentation and announcements from the Board of Education Meeting that took place on February 11, 2025.
Student Government: The meeting began with a Student Government presentation, showcasing each school’s recent accomplishments, current initiatives, and future goals. Thank you to the Student Government leaders (Magnus (BRS), Molly & Samantha (PMS), and Nick & Juliana (PHS)) for joining us. It was absolutely a highlight of the evening for us all!
Budget Workshop: Before the Board Meeting, a budget workshop took place outlining how the budget is constructed. Please visit the district website (Departments > Business Office > Budget Information) to view the latest budget information. The 2025-26 proposed budget will be presented at the March 4 Board meeting.
PreK Registration: We have 61 students registered for PreK for 2025-26. Families will be notified by the YMCA to register with them. Additional registrants will be prioritized based on completion of the registration processes.
Spring Athletics Season: The upcoming spring athletics season is part of our ongoing discussion regarding the use of portable lights to ensure games can be completed.
- Athletic Director Dan Iorio presented an assessment of daylight issues based on the current spring athletics schedule and an update on the District’s research on portable light rentals.
- Meetings are planned for late February with the lights committee and district neighbors (Ashland & Romer) to continue our discussions around the use of portable lights. We will follow up with specific dates, times, and locations in the near future.
Facilities Committee & Survey: A community survey and information about the expanded facilities committee, including an application, were distributed. Responses are due by February 21 at 5 PM. This data will guide communication, community engagement, maintenance, and budget planning. The committee will ensure broad representation, including students.
Parkway Usage: Board President Erin Ballard and I met with village officials to explore the optimal use of Parkway and resolve related issues. We are looking forward to working with the Village to determine a process for exploring how best to utilize all of our facilities, including Parkway.
DASA Commitment: We reaffirm our dedication to ensuring our schools are welcoming and affirming places for all our students. The full update was included in Tuesday’s Pville Press.
As you know, next week schools are closed in observance of President’s Day and winter break. I hope all of our students and families find the time together to be fun-filled and peaceful.
For the youth,
Dr. DeSa
