March 25, 2025

Dear Pleasantville Families,

We are writing to provide an update regarding the recent Board of Education discussion on the potential to include a capital project proposition on the May 2025 ballot. This discussion took place during the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 18.

After thoughtful deliberation, it was determined that the district will not include a capital project proposition on the ballot for the May 20th vote. Our community has provided us with a great deal of input in recent months, including the Community Survey. Given the limited window available to communicate about a proposition, we will take more time for consideration and outreach.

To ensure the next proposal is comprehensive and represents the needs of all students, we will continue to work closely with the Community Facilities Committee. The committee's advisory role will be instrumental in helping to evaluate district needs, explore potential improvements, and guide the development of a thoughtful, inclusive proposal.

Given that the capital project discussed at this recent board meeting included safety enhancements, we want to reassure you that the safety and security of our students, staff, and community members remain our top priority. As such, we regularly evaluate opportunities for improvement. The proposed 2025-26 school budget includes a measure to further enhance security by adding a Security Guard with military, law enforcement, or corrections experience at each school. We will continue to look at additional opportunities to upgrade safety as we consider a future capital project.

Moving forward, the Board and administration are committed to careful consideration of all community feedback as we determine the next steps related to the district’s facilities and any potential capital project. We are also dedicated to ensuring that our process is transparent, thorough, and reflective of the community’s needs and priorities.

We greatly appreciate your ongoing support and engagement as we work together to strengthen our schools and provide the best possible learning environment for all students.

Sincerely,

The Pleasantville Board of Education

Dr. Tina DeSa, Superintendent of Schools
