Yesterday, our third- and fourth-grade students were not able to complete the NYS ELA test because of technical difficulties and outages with the New York State Testing Application, which is used for computer-based testing. This impacted districts across the state. The fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders were scheduled to start testing today, and unfortunately, the application was not operational again. Students continued with their regular class schedule.
We are going to hold off on any additional testing this week for all grades.
Scheduling for state-wide tests takes thoughtful planning. We want to provide our building administrators with the opportunity to review the events already scheduled for the week we return from Spring Recess. This will allow them to determine the best timing to ensure the schedule can accommodate completing the test at BRS (1 day) and administering the test at the Middle School (2 days).
The building administrators will reach out to their respective families with specific dates as soon as we have a finalized plan. We will not test on Monday, April 21, when we return from break.
I would also like to take the opportunity to commend the entire staff and our students for their flexibility and patience. Thanks to our incredible staff, students were largely unaffected by the schedule changes. It’s always heartwarming to witness the resilience and positivity of children.
Have a great day and a restful spring break.
For the youth,
Dr. DeSa
