As we mentioned in last week's email we have a great new program to offer our food safety trainers. The feedback regarding the new program has been very positive from our FSM trainers and the health authorities across Canada that have reviewed and accredited the new course.

There have been a few questions that we wanted to answer to help you manage the transition to MFS.

Is Managing Food Safety nationally recognized?
Yes. No matter where your participants are in Canada MFS has been reviewed and is accredited by the health authorities to meet the requirements for food handler certification.

Is Managing Food Safety more difficult than NFSTP?
No. The national standards for food handler certification programs require all programs to have the same minimum content standards which both programs meet. MFS is actually easier in many respects as we have included more visuals, practice activities and job aids to help convey best practices.

Is NFSTP still valid?
Absolutely. Anyone who has taken the NFSTP can be secure in knowing their certification is still accepted nationally until the expiration date on their certification documents.

What happens to the NFSTP participant workbooks and exam answer forms we have in our inventory?
We will process all NFSTP certifications. Please continue to use any NFSTP workbooks and exam answer forms. We will process them until you use up your inventory and switch to the MFS course.

Is there a big learning curve to switch to teaching the new program?
Most of the technical information remains the same. There are a few minor changes to cooking temperatures and holding times, but for the most part, you will already be very familiar with the content.

Because we have added in many new activities, visual case studies and job aids we think the training will be more enjoyable for the participants. And that makes your life as a trainer easier.

Be sure to log into the Food Safety Market to download your free training materials (PowerPoint and Trainers Guide) to get familiar with the new materials.

Are the materials available in English and French?
Yes. In fact, some materials like the info-graphics are available in 8 languages. The online training will be available in 8 languages as well. Soon, we will be able to offer the Exam question booklets in multiple languages (beyond the current options of English and French).

Is the new course going to cost more?
No. We are committed to providing the same great pricing we currently offer. With all the new benefits MFS brings this represents even better value to you and your course participants.

When will the NFSTP classroom training materials be removed from the Food Safety Market?
We will remove the NFSTP products from the Food Safety Market by February 8th. We will leave the NFSTP exam question booklets available for a period of time after that date so you can use them along with your inventory of NFSTP training materials.
