February 2019 Newsletter
If your New Year resolution is to get more involved this year, we've got you covered! We have lots of exciting opportunities coming up in 2019 for makers and creatives, farmers and foodies, and folks with a passion for community building. We're excited to activate our space, inside and out, for community to gather, organize and activate.

Looking for leadership opportunities? Consider joining a Q Center committee or our board of directors. Tomorrow, February 6 we will host Board Member Speed Dating Event where you can meet three great organizations serving LGBTQ2SIA+ communities and allies--Q Center, The Equi Institute, and The Blueprint Foundation.

Our speed dating format will include quick eight minute conversations, for you to get to know leaders from each organization, have your questions answered, and if you're feeling lucky, schedule a second date to learn more about board membership and other volunteer opportunities.

Learn more about what Q Center is looking for in a board member here and email leadership@pdxqcenter.org for your board application today.
Volunteers are essential to keeping Q Center open 7 days a week. Volunteers staff the front desk, clean the facility, organize the library, and run most of our events! Volunteering at Q is a wonderful way to get to know your local LGBTQ2SIA+ community, to provide support and resources to others, and gain experience in a dynamic community center.

To get started as a volunteer, attend our next volunteer orientation on Feb 11 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Email  bion@pdxqcenter.org  to RSVP!

Thanks to funding from the City of Portland, Q Center is able to present a FREE series of workshops geared to educating and resourcing our communities to combat hate.

Join us Thursdays, 6:30-8:00pm in the Ed Caudero Auditorium. Questions? Email Page for detail.
February 6: Serving Lgbtq2sia+ People Reporting Hate Crimes & Bias Incidents L earn more about Q Center's work with Portland United Against Hate and how to assist community members who may have experienced a hate or bias incident.

February 15: Interrupting Hate

Markets Coming This Spring

March will bring the launch of a monthly Maker's Market, designed with supporting the beginner marketer in mind. First-time vendors encouraged, an affordable sliding-scale fee is being offered, and a % of sales will go to the Q center. Questions? Want to apply? Contact Market Manager Sammi at srivera@pdxqcenter.org for details.

Thanks to an exciting new partnership with queer-owned urban farm, The Side Yard Farm, Q Center will be hosting a weekly farmer's market in our parking lot June through September. Together our goal is to bring some great, local food to Mississippi Avenue through support of our community of farmers and makers, and to connect youth to food and farming. Market vendors will have interns available to support vendors on market days to help them get some job training and connect them with our LGBTQ2SIA+ community.
For more information or to be a vendor, please email Anna at farmers@pdxqcenter.org . Applications will go live mid month!

Interested in getting your hands dirty? Side Yard Farm is looking for queer interns/volunteers to help out this season. Learn about growing food seasonally, soil health, intensive farming practices, harvest and more. Their goal is to provide you with a hands on learning experience and to bring community together. Seeking looking for individuals who are hard working and dedicated to learning the ins and outs of urban farming. No previous farming experience is required. You will receive produce in exchange for your time. Please contact Stacey at thesideyardpdx@gmail.com.
