Club Q Response Update

Funders for LGBTQ Issues is organizing members to support survivors and the wider LGBTQ community in Colorado Springs following the Club Q attack on November 20, 2022.

Six years ago, in the aftermath of the Pulse massacre in Orlando, Florida, Funders for LGBTQ Issues worked with local activists to develop the Contigo Fund. Contigo now guides a long-term philanthropic response to help empower and heal the Central Florida LGBTQ community after one of its darkest moments. Now, in collaboration with the Contigo Fund and several other LGBTQ funders, we are applying these lessons six years later to help empower the LGBTQ communities of Colorado Springs.

This month, Chantelle Fisher-Borne, Senior Project Director of our Out in the South Initiative, is traveling to Colorado Springs along with staff and community members from the Contigo Fund for a series of planning meetings with local queer and trans organizations, community members, funders, and activists. These meetings, which will extend into early 2023, are intended to help the local LGBTQ community identify funding strategies aligned with their immediate and long-term needs, particularly local queer and trans communities of color who are often overlooked and under-resourced. We are excited to share more updates with our network in 2023.
