New Yorkers May Now Choose 'X' on Their Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates

On January 9, 2023, The New York State Department of Health announced the implementation of a non-binary option for birth, marriage, and death certificates for New Yorkers who reside outside New York City, which maintains its vital records.


LGBT Adults Aged 50 and Older in the US During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Using data from the U.S. Census Household Pulse Survey, this report examines the demographics, health, and economic experiences of LGBT adults aged 50–64 and those aged 65 and older during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Hate Crimes Against LGBT People

Using hate crime data from the 2017-2019 National Crime Victimization Survey, researchers estimate the prevalence and characteristics of violent hate crime victimization of LGBT people in the United States compared to non-LGBT hate crime victims and LGBT victims of other types of violent crimes.

Impact of HB 1557 (Florida’s Don’t Say Gay Bill) on LGBTQ+ Parents in Florida

In March 2022, the Florida Legislature passed HB 1557, the Don’t Say Gay bill, prohibiting instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in schools. Using data gathered from 113 LGBTQ+ parents in Florida, this study examines the concerns and perspectives of LGBTQ+ parents regarding the bill.
