- The Out in the South Initiative and Grantmakers for Southern Progress continue to partner to increase funding for social justice efforts in the South. Chantelle Fisher-Borne, project director of the Out in the South Initiative, served on the planning committee for this year's GSP conference held September 4-6 in Montgomery, AL. The conference brought together national and Southern funders to learn from Southern movement leaders and develop social justice grantmaking strategies for Southern communities. In partnership with the Equality Justice Initiative, the conference was designed to help funders better understand how the legacy of slavery and lynching in the US South shapes the current conditions facing communities of color in the region and throughout the country.
|
- Alex Lee attended the Women's Funding Network Conference and participated in a panel titled "The State of Funding and Collaboratives for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Communities." The session featured candid conversations with leaders in the Transgender and gender non-conforming rights movement, and the funders and organizations who support them.
