High-Quality Language Interactions
|
|
This handout from the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership in Illinois is a helpful resource for those who are interested in developing high-quality language interactions found in the ECERS-3 Language and Literacy subscale items 12 -14: Helping children expand vocabulary, encouraging children to use language, and staff use of books with children. The article includes specific examples of what teachers might say to children to develop their language and literacy skills. For instance: During a snack or meal, staff focus on children’s personal experiences, “We are eating yogurt. Yogurt is made from milk. What do you eat at home that is made from milk?”
