4X Winner: 2022, 2021, 2020 Spring and 2018 Summer
Delicato Family Wines recently announced that it is the exclusive recipient of the 30th Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2022 Best Producer United States of America award. This is the fourth time that Delicato has achieved this honor. Delicato's sustained excellence is testament to their market driven wine quality winning strategy at each price point.

The Grand International Wine Award Mundus Vini is regarded as one of the most important wine competitions in the world. Over 11,000 wines from all wine-growing regions are submitted each year and are judged by a high class expert jury consisting of more than 300 international, highly recognized wine experts from the trade, gastronomy, wine making, wine business and wine media. The wines are evaluated according to the international 100-point scheme of the International Organization of Vine and Wine and are recognized by the Union Internationale des Oenologues.

At the end of March, our International Team journeyed to Napa for their annual International Commercial Meeting, which had been on hiatus for a couple years. Post pandemic planning under one roof gave the team the ability to share best practices with functional teams across the entire organization. The team is excited to get out there utilize these practices in their markets!
Bud break, also known as bud burst, marks the moment when the vines wake up from their winter sleep. We'll start to see the young leaves that are extremely fragile as they're the most vulnerable to freeze damage at this point. Bud break at black Stallion vineyards took place on the first week of April, we're now starting the countdown to harvest!

California Certified Sustainable Winery - Now displayed on Diora label!
Beginning in April 2022, the 2020 vintage Diora Chardonnay and Pinot Noir will be CCSW certified and will display the emblem on the back label. Please work directly with your Delicato Family Wines sales manager for exact transition dates for your next shipment.

New Vintage Release Virtual Tastings
In February, Black Stallion Winemaker Ralf Holdenried held a virtual new vintage tasting with our European partners. The tasting featured the Limited Release and Prestige portfolio and included virtual AVA flyovers and a exemplary summary of each vintage year that was tasted.
In early March, Chief Winemaker Corey Beck led our European partners through a tasting of the 2018 Archimedes Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2018 Eleanor Sonoma County Red Wine. The tasting included the history of the property and the unique growing regions within Sonoma County.
On April 28th, Z. Alexander Brown Winemaker John Killebrew held an exclusive virtual tasting event that featured the Cabernet Sauvignon, Propietary Red Blend and Chardonnay. He shared stories about working with Zac Brown on these delicious #UncagedWines.

The 2020 Sofia Rosé from Monterey, California is a sophisticated-tasting, medium-bodied wine that blends five grape varieties, Grenache, Syrah, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio and a splash of Pinot Noir. Each glassful shines the color of sunlit coral with rose-gold inflections and exudes a quiet crush of redcurrant and cherry on the nose laced with lemon zest, apricot and wispy notes of lilac. The winery was established in 2005 and is a "lower house" of the family-run winery Delicato Family Vineyards, established in 1924. Gnarly Head was started as a project where they wanted to make wines from the so-called "gnarly" vines with Zinfandel grapes dating back to the beginning of the 20th century in Lodi, California. Read more.
Successful 'San Francisco Surrounded' Dinner Event in Tokyo!
In April 2022, Tokyo Wine Events asked Delicato Family Wines about hosting a Californian Wine dinner for guest from their database and social media groups. We came up with the theme “San Francisco Surrounded” as Delicato farms and makes wines from wine regions surrounding San Francisco (Sonoma, Napa, Lodi and Monterey).

The event was held at the prestigious Tokyo American Club and was a sell out with 36 guests. The guest enjoyed a presentation about California wines, the wine regions surrounding San Francisco, the wine brands and individual wines. The Tokyo American Club had a tasty four course menu that was paired to 4 wines (there was also a sparkling wine served on arrival) and guests enjoyed wines from 3 brands in the DFW’s wine portfolio including Sofia, First Press and Noble Vines.
Simone Margheri was born and bred in Florence, Tuscany and started very early in the wine world. Already at the age of 6 he was bottling wine with his father, with an Archimedes screw, in the traditional flask enclosed in a straw basket.

After finishing his bachelor’s degree in marketing communication from the University of Florence, he moved to London, UK, where he worked for Harrods, the world’s leading luxury department store.

After two years he was hired by Nicolas Belfrage MW, who gave him the opportunity to start a career in the wine industry and became his mentor. Simone was responsible for the UK major retailers accounts and in addition he expanded the company’s business in Asia.

In 2014 he moved to Hong Kong to join a beverage distribution company, fell in love with the place and decided to make the city, where east meets west, his home. He then covered the Asia regional manager role for two major Italian wineries and developed their business in the region.

Simone joined Delicato team in March 2022. His responsibilities include managing the Southeast Asia market as well as supporting Tom in other Asian markets. By no means restricted to Italy, Simone is fascinated by the similarities of the California terroir with his homeland and strongly believes in the American wine export potentials.

During his free time Simone enjoys watching the NBA, playing “street” basketball and hiking to the wild trails in Hong Kong.
Sarah Gutierrez was raised in Napa, CA. She earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University.

Prior to joining the wine industry, Sarah worked in the apparel industry in various leadership roles where she was responsible for inventory management, financial forecasting, creating efficient process and developing tools and reporting.


Sarah recently joined Delicato as the International Sales Operations Analyst and will be putting her problem solving, process and spreadsheet skills to use.


Sarah lives in Napa with her two daughters. She enjoys being outside with her kids and going hiking, kayaking, and taking trips to the beach.
