Another quarter has come and gone (a bit too quickly, I'll say). It's been busy and we continue to accomplish great things as a department. While the journey hasn't been easy, we're learning to "Handle Hard Better", with inspiration from Kara Lawson, Duke Women’s Basketball coach.

IDEA2: Inclusion, Innovation, Diversity, Discovery, Equity, Excellence, Advocacy, and Advancement.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology launched the IDEA2 Office in 2021 to promote diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the department, across the institution, and with community partners. The office aims to create welcoming cultures of belonging and increase community partnerships through engagement and trust. IDEA2 initiatives are indicated by the lightbulb symbol.
The IDEA2 principles are integrated into our operating CARE model (clinical service, administrative support and oversight, research, and education). The values that guide CARE are Competence, Curiosity, and Compassion.

Congratulations to Dr. Eisenberg on his election to the WashU Executive Committee of the Faculty Council (ECFC) as Vice Chair-elect!
The ECFC at Washington University School of Medicine is the active liaison between the Faculty Council and the Executive Faculty. The ECFC solicits concerns, disseminates information, advocates for faculty, and provides an open forum for addressing issues relevant to the School of Medicine faculty. In his role as Vice Chair-elect, Dr. Eisenberg will serve as voting member on the Executive Faculty.

Kevin Prifti, Senior Research Technician in the Frolova Lab, received the Basic Science Award at the Rothman Research Symposium in May 2022. Prifti’s project and presentation on “Diet-induced obesity impairs uterine contractility in mice” was evaluated by a distinguished panel of select faculty and guest speaker.
- Senior Scientist khabele Dr. Viju Gupta’s abstract entitled, “Olaparib in combination with entinostat, improves tumor immunity in syngeneic murine models of ovarian cancer” has been accepted for a virtual poster presentation at the upcoming 14th Biennial Virtual Ovarian Cancer Research Seminar Series presented by the Rivkin Center and the American Association for Cancer Research in September 2022.

The main goal of the Dr. D. Michael Nelson Alumni Society is to raise money to offset costs of trainee education, such as simulation models. We successfully launched the Society in October 2021 and have been growing ever since. We are currently in the process of contacting alums from residency, fellowships and faculty. DEIA RESIDENCY CURRICULUM | |

Our Grassroots Resident DEIA Committee hosts 9 sessions​ throughout the academic year with the goal of promoting an understanding of the disparities and struggles patients face on a daily basis.​
In June, the DEIA committee hosted their final event of the year: Let's Talk About Roe. Members of the OBGYN department were able to come together in a safe space to discuss the current state of abortion in the United States and create a list of action items on how to best advocate for their community. We're excited to see what they do next!
