Legacy Autojectors Molding Machine -

Upgrade Complete

Breathing New Life into Precision Manufacturing

While we are known for designing cutting-edge custom automation, one of our greatest strengths lies in our ability to take existing assets and transform them into high-performance, modern powerhouses.

We recently completed a comprehensive refurbishment and modernization of an Autojector machine, proving that with the right engineering partner, "old" equipment can perform like "new."

From Legacy to Leading-Edge

In the world of cable manufacturing, reliability and consistency are everything. To ensure this Autojector could meet the rigorous demands of modern manufacturing, our team performed a "ground-up" restoration, replacing nearly every critical system with state-of-the-art technology.

  • Next-Gen Control Systems: We replaced the outdated brain of the machine with a new Automation Direct Series 2000 PLC and a C-More color-touch screen. This included a complete rewiring of the machine and conversion to a safer, more efficient 24V DC control voltage.
  • Mechanical Precision: To ensure maximum durability and throughput, we installed a brand-new Nitralloy barrel and screw, a new extrude motor, and a new upper platen.
  • Complete Hydraulic Overhaul: The hydraulic system was essentially rebuilt from scratch, featuring a new pump, electric motor, heat exchanger, valves, hoses, and solenoid cables. To prove its reliability, the system underwent a rigorous 8-hour dry cycle to verify a 100% leak-free environment.
  • Safety and Ergonomics: We integrated new safety guarding, Opti-Touch cycle buttons, and new linear position sensors for pinpoint injection setpoints.

Beyond the mechanics, the machine received a total aesthetic overhaul with a professional paint job and new table phenolics, making it look and feel like it just rolled off the factory floor.

Quality You Can Trust

Our work on the machine may be done, but our committment to it and the customer isn't. This modernized Autojector was delivered with a full 18-month parts and labor warranty, providing our customer with the same peace of mind they would expect from a brand-new purchase - at a fraction of the cost.

In-house Complex Mold Engineering

Tackling complex engineering challenges is something the QSI team does every day. So, when a customer came to us with a complex mold project, we didn’t flinch.

The organic “goose neck” core shape presents a unique machining challenge because the core is completely circular with no flat surfaces to reference. This means it must be precisely machined around the entire surface, requiring advanced tooling and expert craftsmanship.

The complexity increases with the internal plumbing system, which must carry water and air through the mold without leaking or crossing paths. Since holes can only be drilled straight, our engineers designed an intricate network of channels and baffles that direct water flow through the cores to ensure efficient cooling and consistent performance.

The finished result: a five-station rotary mold with one-piece goose neck cores that was entirely designed and built in-house for a fully automated molding system.

This is one example of QSI’s ability to design, engineer, and build highly specialized molds for demanding applications. With full in-house capabilities, from design and prototyping to build, repair, and ongoing support, we are committed to helping customers keep their molding operations running efficiently and reliably.

Chili Contest Tradition Continues

QSI’s annual Chili Contest wrapped up another great year, that has been a Q1 tradition for more than 22 years. The event always brings out some friendly competition as team members put their best recipes to the test.

Customers and vendors once again served as our judges, sampling each entry and selecting their favorite.

Congratulations to Martin, who earned this year’s chili bragging rights! With the chili contest wrapped up, the team’s competitive spirit now shifts to our annual March Madness bracket challenge.
