Patient Engagement in ACTION!
Chris Eichmeier, NPR and PAC member and the team at Mercy Medical Center Dialysis in Clinton, Iowa hosted a lobby day this month to share information on vocational rehabilitation services.

They invited two Vocational Rehabilitation representatives (Becky and Paul, shown left) to sit in the patient waiting room during the busiest times to answer any question the patient had.

Thanks Chris and Clinton Dialysis team for your work to spread the word about programs available to help people return to or improve their work environment.
Is there a patient engagement activity you would like to share with our Network community? We would love to share your best practices.

Remembering Denny Burgess

The Network would like to honor the memory of, Denny Burgess who passed away on July 20. Denny was a passionate advocate for himself and others living with kidney disease. We were fortunate to have known him as a member of the Network Patient Advisory Council since 2016, as a patient subject matter expert for the Patient Engagement Learning and Action Network and as a Network Patient Representative.
Denny brought a positive outlook and genuine desire to help others live well with kidney disease. In addition to his work with the Network, Denny participated in his clinic’s Patient Advisory Council and spoke at the Kidney Options class for new patients.

Recently, the staff at University of Iowa- Grinnell nominated him for the Ardyth Boucher Legacy Award and shared the following:

“Denny strives to maintain independence in spite of great adversity. He has faced many obstacles and yet has faced them with courage, hope and determination. He has taught all those around him how valuable having the right attitude is to quantity and quality of life. Denny is a shining beacon of hope and happiness.” Denny made an impact on all those he met and he will be dearly missed.
