The schedule and complete information about this year's Quad State Conference is now available HERE.
(Because of a local festival, hotel rooms may be difficult to secure. Please plan ahead.)
Every other year, we share in this event with our New England colleagues in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts; this year, it is New Hampshire’s turn to host, and the Quad State Conference will be held at Keene State College. The exciting schedule includes a number of presentations on teaching topics, a demonstration of the Steinway Spirio piano technology, along with the Commissioned Composers’ concert showcasing composers from each state. There is also a pre-conference concert on Friday evening, October 17 featuring the Apple Hill Spring Quartet. Read all the details on sessions and presenters using the link above. We hope to have Vermont well represented at this event!
Our Vermont Commissioned Composer, Callum Robechek, will perform the premiere of his new solo piano work "philia" at the Quad State Commissioned Composers' Concert, which occurs on Saturday at 1 PM in the conference schedule. Callum is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Vermont, graduating from Montpelier High School in 2024. He grew up participating in many musical ensembles and taught himself to write and record his own music. He learned from teachers such as Erik Nielsen (one of VMTA's earlier commissioned composers) and from participation in programs including Music-COMP, eventually having pieces performed by a number of Vermont musicians and ensembles. He is now in his second year of composition study at New York University. Commissioned composers’ works from each state will be entered into the 2026 MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year national competition, following their premiere performances. - Michael Sitton, Commissioned Composer chair
