From Sarah:

One of the best things about being a local store is being able to carry North Carolina-related books and other items that you might not find elsewhere. Among these are:
John Dancy-Jones's new book, a decade in the making, The Natural History of Raleigh , about our wonderful greenway system, parks, and other natural areas and including a really interesting section on Lassiter Mill.
Raleigh architect Frank Harmon's lovely Native Places , a collection of sixty-four watercolor sketches paired with essays about architecture, landscape, everyday objects, and nature.
The new North Carolina Music issue of the Oxford American Magazine featuring more than 25 stories exploring the history and legacy of North Carolina music with contributions from novelists Jonathan Lethem, Jill McCorkle, and Wiley Cash, musicians Rhiannon Giddens and Tift Merritt, and featuring Tryon native Nina Simone on the cover. The accompanying CD has pieces by Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, James Taylor, and Elizabeth Cotten, and many others.
North Carolina's Literary Luminaries and the Bookshops That Love Them: 2019 Calendar , features all the writers that have been inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame plus 12 bookstores from Piedmont NC, including yours truly (we're the August pin-up!) It's a fun way to get to know the writers who have put our state on the literary map, from Thomas Wolfe to the latest inductees: Randall Kenan and Jill McCorkle. A unique local gift for newcomers and old-timers, it also comes with a road trip incentive: visit all 12 bookstores by Independent Bookstore Day (4/27/19) and you win a special discount at all 12 stores through the end of 2019, as well as an entry to win a weekend for two to Southern Pines where you're invited to attend the next Literary Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
If you want to get really local, we're excited that, after 34 years, we've finally gotten Quail Ridge Books themed t-shirts and mugs! The t-shirts come in five different styles and the mugs in four. Our gift buyer, Samantha, did a great job working with local company Bay 6 to design and print these. We have lots of other interesting books and gift items celebrating North Carolina. Shopping Local has never been more fun!

IRA DAVID WOOD III, The Russian Galatea
**Meet and Greet**

It was said that on July 16, 1918, the entire Romanov family was murdered by Russian Bolsheviks. Woven around historical facts, this novel is a detective story about a courageous investigator's obsession with finding out what really happened to Tsar Nicholas II and his family, and his deep relationship with the girl in a faded photograph. Is she alive or dead? Ira David Wood is the founder and current Executive Director of Raleigh's Theatre in the Park. He will not have a presentation, but will greet everyone, and will sign and personalize copies of the book.
Tickets are sold out to our event with Bishop Michael Curry at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Raleigh on Dec. 17. However, through Dec. 16, you may order a signed and personalized copy of his new book, The Power of Love here .
