High School PSAT Day - October 12

Important PSAT Information:

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be administered on Wednesday, October 12 to all students in grades 10 and 11 and the PSAT 8/9 to students in grade 9.  Parkway students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will take the PSAT and will not attend Parkway on October 12 (excused absence).  Parkway students should ride their assigned QVSD school bus (not the Parkway bus) to the high school to participate in PSAT testing.

As per College Board regulations, students are not permitted late admittance into testing rooms. Anyone arriving after 8:00am will not be permitted to test and will be sent to a quiet study room during the testing window.  Please bring a calculator for the math portion of the test.

Classes will not resume after testing and lunch. Students who do not wish to remain in the building until the regular dismissal time may bring a signed permission slip to leave the building at 12:40 pm. Permission slips were mailed home several weeks ago and are also in the main office. Students must have their own transportation, as buses will not be transporting students earlier than the scheduled time.  Please note that students will NOT be permitted to leave before 12:40 pm.

Seniors will not attend school on Wednesday, October 12.  However, they will have assigned work to do on that day for the school to count the day for attendance.  Parkway seniors will follow their regular Parkway schedule but will not report for afternoon classes at QVHS.

Fern Hollow and QVMS - Creekers Club

Join Fern Hollow Nature Center at the Quaker Valley Middle School for our new Middle School Creekers club for students in 6-8th grade. This program is an extension of the Quaker Valley Creekers, a program that has been running at the high school for the past 13 years. The club will meet monthly in room 307 at the middle school from 3:05 till 4:30pm. The first meeting will be held on October 19th.

In this after-school club dedicated to environmental science, we will be helping Little Sewickley Creek Watershed test the health of the waterway while getting a comprehensive knowledge of the watershed and how it functions as a healthy ecosystem. Students will learn with Fern Hollow Nature Center and test their Minecraft world-building abilities to discover the properties of a watershed through geology, water quality, and exploration.

The club will do hands-on experiments, online watershed building, and outdoor exploration. Students are encouraged to be curious, thoughtful, and creative scientists as we discover watershed science in Sewickley!

Students are encouraged to bring a cell phone or tablet to school to participate in the mindcraft portion of the club. School tablets will not work.

Pre Registration is required. Please email gretchen@fhnc.org for more information or to register.
