I bought one of these back in September when they were around $100 and I videoed my first crook this week. See https://youtu.be/BD6W22YspAA and read the write-up. I also found that soda can and gave it to the police in hopes that they can get the fingerprints. It will work with just a computer but I already had a Synology server and used their Surveillance Station 7.1 software. The license is free for one camera but they charge about $65 for additional licenses. The camera does require a PoE switch.
