CALENDAR CHANGES

Please review the updated school calendar HERE. Fall Break has been extended to the full week of October 19th-23rd to allow teachers extra time to prepare for the second quarter. We have also removed the professional development day for staff on November 30th, which will now be a regular school day.

PHASED RESTART

We will use a phased approach to ease students back into on-site learning slowly and safely. A fully virtual learning model is also available for the entire second quarter. Parents should feel free and comfortable to choose this option if it is in the best interest for your family and if your student is doing well in this learning environment.

WHAT WILL ON-SITE LEARNING LOOK LIKE?

Students will attend their normal scheduled classes in-person with their teachers. Face masks are required for students and staff at all times on school grounds. Classrooms and other student spaces have been adapted to allow as much social distancing as possible. Room layout changes, plexiglass installation, signage for traffic flow, and other mitigations are in place, as a 6 foot distance cannot be guaranteed. View complete safety protocols, the latest COVID-19 updates, and other helpful resources at daytonstemschool.org/covid19.

Below are the goal start dates for each on-site phase, along with a schedule for who will be in the building and when. These dates may be subject to change based on any new information and our success with prior phases. When students are not in the building, they will be continuing the current virtual format for learning. Wednesdays during Quarter 2 will be designated as fully virtual days for all students.

Please note that 6th grade students will be on-site more than others to assist with their transition. Students with special needs or hardships will be contacted by staff for additional on-site time, as well.

PHASE 1 - Each student will be on-site one day per week
Begins Monday October 26th

PHASE 2 - Each student will be on-site two days per week
Begins Monday November 16th

PHASE 3 - Each student on-site four days per week
Begins Monday December 7th

You will see in the links above that we have elected not to separate the grade levels into an A/B schedule. Therefore, the "full" class could be on-site on your child's designated days. However, we estimate that between 25% and 45% of students will remain at home for virtual learning for the entire quarter. We hope that this information helps you to make an informed decision for your student and family.

WHAT WILL VIRTUAL LEARNING LOOK LIKE?

Virtual students will attend classes taught by STEM School faculty via Zoom. This will look very similar, if not the same, as virtual learning during the first quarter. This could include both synchronous and asynchronous class time, to be communicated by your teachers. Student schedules may need to be adjusted to best serve our virtual learners. If these changes affect your child, you will be contacted by an administrator. If you would like to opt out of on-site instruction for Quarter 2, please complete the form below.

OPT OUT OF ON-SITE LEARNING

If you would like to OPT OUT of all on-site learning for the entire second quarter and keep your child in a virtual learning model, FILL OUT THIS COMMITMENT FORM by Friday October 9th

If you would like to FOLLOW THE SCHOOL'S RESTART PLAN and send your child back to school on their designated days, NO ACTION IS NEEDED.
