Quarterly Meeting Spurs on Advocacy; Delineates Lobbying and Introduces CHAPS Coordinating Committee
Sara Johnson, Bill Judd and Dominique Horn of the SW WA CHAPS Coordinating Committee introduce themselves to the Collaborative

Taking its mission seriously to affect upstream policies for the health equity of all, the HLC is ramping up in preparation of the 2017 WA state legislative session. On this front there have been three recent simultaneous efforts.
  • For one, our SW regional community health workers, supported by HLC staff, have been busy cultivating their infrastructure and processes to grow the Community Health Advocates Peer Support Network (CHAPS) for increased networking and advocacy regionally.
  • Secondly, as a follow up to the invitation by legislators to build relationships for the purpose of mutually beneficial education on forthcoming issues, several members of the HLC Policy Committee have begun to meet and schedule recurring meetings with legislators, which are going very well.
  • Thirdly, at the most recent meeting of the HLC, Vic Coleman of Uncommon Solutions presented tips for knowing how far to move freely on the advocacy continuum before it would be considered lobbying. If you were unable to attend, you can view this important information here: Policy Change Tip Sheet and Lobbying vs. Advocacy Presentation

12th Annual Tribal Health Walk and Fair
You are invited to walk or provide a health education booth.

Tribal Health Walk is on September 17th at Lake Sacajawea. Last year over 350 people participated in the 3.5 mile walk around our beautiful lake. If you would like to provide a health education booth for your organization at this year's event, the folks at Cowlitz Indian Tribe would be very pleased and extremely honored to have you.
