Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness

As temperatures climb each summer, we grow mindful of the effects of extreme heat and the challenges to the community if power were to be lost for a day or longer. Everyone living in Tucson would feel the impact. Building a Resilient Neighborhood (BaRN), a coalition representing seven neighborhoods, invites you to help Tucson increase its preparedness and become more resilient.

and being prepared for Man-made and Climate-Related Emergencies

Two simple strategies will make everyone safer:

• Preparing materials and supplies in our households – from potable water to non-perishable food, cooling methods to plans for communication

This week primary election ballots were mailed to every registered voter in Tucson. For your vote to count, you must mail or drop it off by July 26, or vote in person on August 1. In Tucson there will be seven in-person voting locations, including Ward 3’s Donna Liggins Recreation Center.

This election, especially the primary, has a short ballot. All voters can vote in the primary for Mayor. In Ward 3 that’s the only item on the ballot. Wards 1, 2, or 4 voters can also cast votes for Council Member.

Ward 3 has partnered with St. Francis Shelter Community to open the Ward 3 Community Room as an additional cooling center Monday through Friday 1-5pm. St. Francis operates a men’s transitional housing facility out of Sacred Heart Church located near First Ave and Ft. Lowell in Amphi neighborhood. Currently, they are staffing our community room for those seeking respite from the heat.

City to assist with sidewalk repair. The neighbor supplies the material and the City supplies the labor.

Provide your name and address and a little information about your project.

You might inquire the specifics of materials etc. If you get a successful project take before and after pictures and we will post here in e-news.

Report when your own home trash or recycle bin needs to be replaced. Sometimes the drivers can see broken or worn bins and they turn them in for replacement. But that’s not always easy from the truck – and they’re focused on moving from house to house. If your bin is in bad condition, please email Eshelp@tucsonaz.gov - give your address and request a replacement. It’ll help out both the drivers, and your neighbors will appreciate not having the visual clutter.

 Franchise Fee - Proposition 412 failed. Now what?



The route remains an issue for Jefferson Park. Will TEP choose Vine or Park as an exit route? Are they planning to overhead through our historic neighborhood?

Statement from TEP: "We will be restarting our review of potential routes for the project through central Tucson. Because the line is urgently needed to maintain reliable service, we will seek to complete it by the summer of 2027 – the same timeline we hoped to achieve if Prop 412 had passed. Additional details will be provided soon to area residents."

We continue to communicate with TEP and will update you as information becomes available and keep you informed as to how to become involved.

Per Steve Kozachik's newsletter: "I’m in touch with some of our shelter operators and the description I get of the number of guests being delivered by CBP is that they’re already ‘very slammed.’ The numbers will escalate once the government ends the COVID-based restrictions on entry that Title 42 was to address. So, we will need your donations even more than we have during what has been a relative (very relative) lull in the number of arrivals. We’ve been seeing 300-500 people daily".

The folks running the Alitas Welcome Center come by the Ward VI weekly to gather the donations you bring into the office. The weekly trips are necessary because they continue to get 300-500 new arrivals daily at Alitas.

We can’t get families who helped in our own war effort united, and we leave it up to donors to help with people coming across our border escaping trauma in their home countries.
