Fall 2018 Edition

Each year, the California City Management Foundation hosts an Annual Member Appreciation Dinner while at the League of California Cities' City Managers Department meeting. The Annual Member Dinner is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones in our expanding city management community.


 
 
The California City Management Foundation would like to congratulate its President - Wade McKinney - on his upcoming retirement in early 2019 as City Manager of Indian Wells!

Wade's expertise and dedication have helped many city managers grow and thrive throughout the years. Moreover, his guidance has helped shape CCMF as a resource for the city management profession. We are thankful for all that he has accomplished during his tenure. Read about Wade's long and outstanding career.

Over the past three weeks, California City Management Foundation leaders and members have combined efforts to combat the Woolsey Fire.  Most recently, CCMF President Wade McKinney temporarily served as Director for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), assisting city officials who have been coordinating the post-fire response.

 
 
CCMF offers up to three (3) $5,000 scholarships each year to active members accepted to the "Leadership Decision Making: Optimizing Organizational Performance" program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Executive Education.

The next program session is in February 2019; applications are due by December 24, 2018. The scholarship application deadline will be January 24, 2019. Visit   www.cacitymanagers.org/harvard-scholarship for more information.

CCMF delivered an interactive session on the "Benefits of Diversity in Municipal Management" during the 2018 League Annual Conference. Paul Arevalo (City Manager of West Hollywood) served as the panel moderator and was joined by Pat Martel (former City Manager of Daly City), Kurt Wilson (City Manager of Stockton), and Lori Sassoon (Deputy City Manager of Rancho Cucamonga).

This past election has many impacts on the California State Legislature, and some races are still too close to call. No matter the outcome of the remaining close races, the Democrats will have a supermajority in both the Assembly and Senate.

Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-incumbent) currently holds a 1,400-vote lead over Bill Essayli (R-challenger) in the 60th Assembly District. Assemblymember Dante Acosta (R-incumbent) trails Christy Smith (D-challenger) in the 38th Assembly District by 1,700 votes. Assemblymember Matthew Harper (R-incumbent) lost to Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-challenger) by 7,000 votes.

Greg Nyhoff
Greg Nyhoff
Greg Nyhoff has over 31 years of experience in Public Administration with 23 years as City Manager in the states of Michigan, Colorado and California. In January 2018, he was appointed as the City Manager for the City of Vallejo, California. Prior to Vallejo, Greg served for 10 years as City Manager in Oxnard and Modesto. During his tenure, he has managed cities with populations as small as 3,000 to communities of over 200,000. Greg has been recognized by ICMA for over 30 years of service to municipalities.

Mr. Nyhoff takes pride in his focus and work with City staff and community: launching various community programs between public safety and its residents; introducing internship opportunities for the young workforce; conducting organizational assessments and financial audits to insure financial stability and operational efficiencies; and initiating leadership development strategies for City staff.

Greg is described as enthusiastic, motivated, passionate and energetic. He has demonstrated experience in building strong relationships in diverse communities. Greg enjoys fostering relationships and forming partnerships with those who want to make a positive impact.

Mr. Nyhoff possesses a BA in Business Administration / Economics. Greg and his wife Cindy have been married for 36 years and have three grown children and a grandson.
