QUARTERLY NEWS & OFFERINGS

OCTOBER – DECEMBER 2026

Open Gate Sangha ~ Celebrating 30 Years!

You are among the precious cast of characters in the story of Open Gate Sangha. Its first chapter began in September 1996, when Adya stepped into his role as our teacher. Now, three decades later, our staff offers this special anniversary newsletter to honor and celebrate our many years together.

Enjoy this 30-year retrospective, featuring a slideshow with music by John Astin as well as a conversation with Adya and Mukti. We’ve also sprinkled in writings and classic audio recordings brought forward from our older archives. May these “party favors” offer sweet memories as well as inspiration for your practice this autumn and beyond.

Adya and Mukti

Reflections (1996–2026) ~ A Conversation with Adya and Mukti

In a heartfelt conversation, Adya and Mukti reflect together on 30 years of teaching and the evolution of Open Gate Sangha. Together they revisit the early days, how Adya’s teaching developed over the years, the student-teacher relationship, spiritual independence and community, and their hopes for how the teachings may continue to serve in the years ahead.

Please note: If you would like to send anniversary wishes or reflections to Adya, Mukti, or Open Gate Sangha, you may do so through the “Letters” link on our Contact Us page.

Having No Relationship with Thought
Classic: Teaching from the Early Years

15% off!

In one of his first recorded talks, Adya reframes the idea of detachment that is common in spiritual and religious circles. Instead of encouraging detachment, he invites us to have no relationship to thought. Our thoughts can be viewed as just happening—not wrong, not right, but just happening. When thoughts are allowed to exist this way, we can find the freedom that comes from letting go of trying to evaluate and control our experience.

Being-Allowing

In one of her first recorded talks from 2008, Mukti reminds us that we meditate to express our true nature, not to achieve a goal.

Pushing Nothing Away

In this engaging classic talk, Mukti invites us to notice what is within us that doesn't seek control, pointing us back to our natural state of wholeness.

Effortless Awakening

Freeing Awareness

Butterfly on flower

In this classic talk from 2009, Mukti explores our tendency to box up our experience and how doing so reinforces a sense of separation. She reminds us that we are the awareness we are seeking—that we are life unfolding, with no separation. Beyond definitions and subject-object relationship, is a direct knowing of awareness, prior to thought and inseparable from our being.

Our Teachers

Mukti, whose name is translated as “liberation,” is the Head Teacher at Open Gate Sangha. She has been teaching in the lineage of Adyashanti since 2004. Her talks point audiences back to their natural state of wholeness or undivided consciousness. For teaching excerpts, audio downloads and CDs, qi gong videos, and a calendar of Mukti’s programs, please visit her website.

If you are new to Mukti, we invite you to watch an inspiring full talk, Potent Mystery (1:25:37).

Adya

Adyashanti, author of The Direct Way, Sacred Inquiry, The Way of Liberation and The End of Your World, is an American-born spiritual teacher who has served the awakening of all beings for almost three decades. Although Adya has recently retired, his teachings continue to be an open invitation to stop, inquire, and recognize what is true and liberating at the core of all existence.
