QUARTERLY NEWS & OFFERINGS
APRIL – JUNE 2024
| |
I warmly welcome you to our spring quarterly newsletter, one that you may find both poignant and exciting. Please read on to hear of changes occurring at Open Gate Sangha; of new offerings and teachings about awakened living; and yes! of our much-anticipated return to hosting in-person events. This “return” is one of many that play into the theme for this newsletter: Coming Full Circle.
Along the path of realization, there are many returns to familiar life territories. Optimally, each is marked by new ways of perceiving and wisdom gained. On the eve of her retirement, Open Gate Sangha’s Board President and Executive Director, Jerilyn Munyon, shares with us her own full circle journey (see article and accompanying photos below). The staff has been thrilled to celebrate her 77th birthday this month and her 21 years of being a remarkable and beloved leader of our organization.
| |
On this March 31, Jerilyn is not the only staff member concluding their time at Open Gate Sangha. Nancy Clark, who has cheerfully overseen our accounting department and systems for two decades, is also retiring. Her files and spreadsheets strike me as works of art and convey her innumerable outpourings of care and love. Jim Greene, who has been our kind, dedicated, and humorous audio-visual manager for 18 years, is concluding his time on staff as well. He has been the technical overseer of hundreds of live broadcasts and thousands of recordings and served as on-site audio engineer at most in-person programs and retreats. Each of these staff members leave a legacy of work and have shared much of the great knowledge they’ve gained with those remaining on staff who will steward it forward. Immeasurable gratitude and bows to Jerilyn, Jim, and Nancy.
In your own life, as you notice ways in which you circle back to familiar territories of engaging and relating, I encourage you to acknowledge and feel grateful for the new perspectives and wisdom you’ve also gained and to marvel at the evolution of consciousness.
With great regard for you and for your dedication,
~ Mukti

When I began my work as part of the leadership of Open Gate Sangha, I really had no idea what was in front of me. In our first meeting on my first day, Adya let me know that what was most important to him was that the organization mirror the teachings; that his and our integrity would always be central. He said, “I want you to let me know if I get off track.” And I said, “I hope you will do the same for me.”
And so it all began . . .

In Zen, a sutra that speaks to our absolute and relative natures depicts seeming opposites as the foot in front and the foot behind in walking. While opposites are often distinguished in spiritual practice, they are actually two inseparable aspects of one being in movement. In this retreat talk for more experienced students, Mukti offers subtle guidance, pairing realization of awareness with realization of conscious being, moving in the world as the expression of Oneness Walking.

Along with the full-length complimentary audio download and new teaching excerpts above, we have curated a collection of Adya’s and Mukti’s teachings with the subject of Awakened Living. We hope that exploring these will help you meet what is unfolding in your own life. Follow these links:
