Driving Plant-Floor Action to Help Meet ESG Goals
|
|
How can existing plant-floor software help you meet your customers’ Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) goals?
Learn how companies are using HMI/SCADA, MES and OT data management software to optimize production efficiency, reduce energy and water consumption, and lower variable industrial costs.
Integrators can help manufacturers translate their ESG goals into concrete plant-floor actions.
In this video, explore how integrators can actively innovate lean circularity and sustainability solutions to help customers deconstruct their sustainability visions into the processes, routines, and action plans needed within their plants. You'll learn how to:
- Move your customers from ESG goals to action.
- Generate new business opportunities related to sustainability and help customers cut costs and waste.
- Leverage best practices for applying HMI/SCADA, MES and OT data management to support ESG outcomes.

By Jose Rivera
I’m writing this right before the U.S. Thanksgiving break. It puts me in a retrospective and appreciative mood.
I am thankful for the following:
- 2022 allowed us to return to more “normal” times, despite the big scare delivered by omicron at the start of the year. Unlike many conferences and events in our industry, we didn’t have to postpone our conference as it was luckily set for the end of June, later than usual.
- CSIA members continue to go through an exhausting period of adaptation and adjustment dealing with talent shortages, supply chain issues, and inflation. The overall trend toward automatization has been a very positive one for our SI and Partner members.
- Uncertainty made the 2022 CSIA Executive Conference the hardest one to put together, at least during my tenure. At the end we had a great turnout (525 vs 534 record), great weather that allowed us to enjoy a baseball game for the opening of our conference, and the unmatched experience of finally being able to be together after three years.

Year-End Tax Planning Tips for Industrial Automation Companies
|
|
By Tarah Ablett
As we approach the end of the year, it’s important for businesses to prepare their year-end tax strategies in advance after yet another volatile year. Taxes can be challenging and complex even in a stable economy. Here are some important items to consider when preparing your taxes this year.
Section 179 Deductions
The Section 179 tax deduction gives taxpayers the opportunity to deduct the entire cost of automated machinery purchased or financed during the 2022 tax year as a business expense. Previously, only a fraction of the cost of such equipment could be claimed each year with depreciation.
This recent change was enacted through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which has allowed more small to mid-sized companies to take advantage of upgrades that were inaccessible due to the upfront price. To elect this deduction will require completing Part 1 of IRS form 4562 and businesses will need to act fast to take advantage before the tax benefit expires at the end of 2022.

The Power of Certification
By Carolina Casas Anzola
The question that many of our members ask themselves, and ask us, is whether it is worth the physical effort and investment to obtain the CSIA Certification. And the answer is so simple that it depends on the level of maturity in the best practices that the company needs.
CSIA Certification is the “icing on the cake” of the implementation of Best Practices. Since as they get closer and closer to the level of a certification, all members of the company begin to adopt the best practices as part of the DNA of their functions and the vision of the company.
