Art Changes Lives
|
|
Greetings!
Once again, we are astounded by the support we have received from our community in the past 3 months. Between the dozens of talented local artists that donated their work to our wildly successful July fundraiser, Artists for Artstart, and the outpouring of volunteer, media, and grant support for our recent projects with local schools, we are overwhelmed with gratitude.
As a result of the support we have received from constituents like you, we are continuing to grow, with a number of exciting and impactful projects on the horizon, like the Pomo Project Mural and The Assistance League Mural detailed below. Meanwhile, we are working on multiple painted park benches, some private mosaic commissions, and a couple of mini murals. With all of these projects on deck, we are able to involve more local talented young artists than ever before, in every stage of these jobs.
Mentoring teens and young adults in the professional practice of art while beautifying our community is our unrelenting mission. Thank you for helping us achieve this goal.

a number of projects, like the one in this photo.)

ELSIE ALLEN MURAL IS COMPLETE
|
|
"The EAHS Campus Mural Project was, and is, an antidote to our stressed and disengaged high schoolers providing them with reprieve and hope during a very challenging time. This collaborative art project re-engaged isolated students in a collective, creative undertaking, giving them a worthy goal, structured experiential learning, marketable skills, socialization, and a creative outlet to navigate challenging emotions."
- Vince A. Figueroa, Elsie Allen High School Foundation Board President
This mural involved 40 Elise Allen High School Students, 3 EAHS staff members, 5 Artstart Artists, 5 Artstart Apprentices, and 7 volunteers. After six months, "Weaving Cultures, The Elsie Allen Mural," is finally complete!

THE ASSISTANCE LEAGUE MURAL
|
|
As a part of our November session, Artstart will be creating a panel
mural for the Assistance League of Sonoma County, Made of a total of
eight 4' x 8' panels, all painted on easels at our warehouse,
this mural will measure a total of 33' in length, and will be installed in
Railroad Square.
The Sonoma County Assistance League chapter exists to serve the unique needs and challenges of their community. Funds serve local needs, and services are locally designed, organized and carried out to fit these needs. Some of their programs include Sights and Sounds, free screening to preschool children to detect hearing and vision problems, Bright Beginnings, and Scholarship,
both of which provide services to teen parents, and Booster Bags,
which serves women and children in crisis.

Artstart is excited to be partnering with the Pomo Project and Elsie Allen High School, to fabricate a mural designed by Joe Salinas, an artist and member of the organization.
This mural will be installed on the Elsie Allen High School campus, where our recent mural "Weaving Cultures, the Elsie Allen Mural", is located, and will employ a similar approach in materials and collaborative remote learning.

In collaboration with West County High School, formerly Analy High School, and art teacher Terra Crawford, Artstart will be creating a mural on Sebastopol's Goodwill building. Crawfords team of 24-28 students will be guided by Artstart lead artist Lily Hourigan and her apprentices to design and fabricate the 6 panel mural. Each panel will portray a different theme representing aspects of Sebastopol history, culture, and ecology.
Thank you to the generosity of our early funders:

Artstart is known for our painted park benches, and we currently have an
influx of these commissions.
Sonoma County Bocce Club has been one of our best bench customers for two decades, and have commissioned a dozen or so park benches in total. This fall they will be adding two more to their corner of Julliard Park.
You can check out some of our past bench designs at the link below.

During our November Apprentice session, we will also be working on a large scale mosaic that will be fabricated in collaboration with local artist, Carole Watanabe.
This private commission, created for a client in Southern California, will cover a retaining wall, and measure 50' x 4', and depict underwater themes. Predominantly made of cut tile, the wall will also include some elements made of glazed and fired clay.
You can view some of our previous mosaic creations at the link below.
