This past quarter has brought both moments of celebration and times of challenge.
In July, we reached an incredible milestone for Butler County with the unveiling of eight publicly accessible universal changing tables—the first in our county’s history. We’re incredibly grateful to our location partners and for the grant funding that made this effort possible.
September brought Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Appreciation Week, when we celebrated the amazing people and agencies who make a difference every day in the lives of those with developmental disabilities. We wrapped up that celebration at our Community Recognition Awards, where over 450 registrants honored more than 100 award winners. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Temple Grandin, shared thoughtful praise for Butler County’s leadership in early intervention and employment programs—affirming what we already know: we’re doing meaningful, impactful work together.
At the same time, we’re facing some tough financial realities. For the first time since passing a levy in 2004, our projections show that by the first quarter of 2027, our financial obligations will exceed our local tax collections. Because of this, the Board has declared a state of fiscal emergency.
We’re taking careful steps—reducing expenses, reviewing programs, and preparing to place a levy issue on the May 2026 ballot to ensure we can continue providing the services our community depends on. We’re working diligently to limit disruptions to services and supports. We value transparency and will keep you informed every step of the way.
If you have questions or thoughts to share, please reach out to us at info@butlerdd.org. We’ll respond within three business days.

On Thursday, September 11, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities (BCBDD, the Board) passed a resolution declaring the Board to be in a state of fiscal emergency due to the fact that our projected expenses will far exceed our local tax collection for the first quarter of 2027.
It’s important to understand three key factors: How we did we get here? What are we doing now? And what do we need to do? Click here to continue reading.

SSA Lead Katie Yount said:
“Over the past few months (since April), our team has been down several SSAs, and there has been a lot of work needing to be covered. Debbie agreed to complete a revision to the plan for one individual to go to Inspiration Studios' new wellness program. They liked her so much, they called and asked for her help with adding HPC to their daughter's plan. Debbie asked me if another SSA had been assigned, and when she learned no one had been assigned yet, without being asked, she said, ‘I'll take care of it.’ She truly is a team player!”
