Welcome Message from our Associate Vice Chancellor from The Office for Health Equity, Diversity & Inclusion - Dr. Hendry Ton

At UC Davis, our mission is to cultivate greater health equity for all communities we serve. While we are dedicated to providing exceptional care at the bedside, it's crucial to acknowledge that medical interventions contribute to only 20% of an individual's overall health. The remaining 40% is heavily influenced by social and economic factors such as poverty, unemployment, limited access to education, and unsafe living environments, which disproportionately affect underserved and vulnerable populations. By addressing these determinants, we can positively impact health outcomes long before individuals seek medical attention and long after they leave our facilities.



In 2020, UC Davis Health launched the Anchor Institution Mission for Community Health, also known as the "AIM for Community Health" initiative, with the goal of breaking down these barriers. UC Davis Health ramps up work with small, diverse local businesses by 23%

UC Davis Health reported nearly $62 million in spending with small and diverse-owned suppliers in fiscal year 2023, an increase of 23% from the previous year. This represents significant progress toward the health system’s commitment to support local business growth, especially in underserved areas.


“Our procurement and contracting team at the medical center has leaned in on this initiative over the last four years,” said Annie Reyes-Salgado, the director of Supply Chain & Contracting Services.

UC Davis Health is a partner and sponsor of People Working Together (PWT). The Hands-On Union Trade Awareness Fair will include include presence from UC Davis and UC Davis Health's Anchor Institution Mission, Aggie Square, and Talent Acquisitions. It will also include UC Davis Trade Partners such as: McCarthy, Wexford, and Whiting-Turner.


This event offers attendees the opportunity to touch and feel real construction equipment. They'll be able to do things like work with cement and lay bricks, work with torches to construct metal toolboxes, create items with sheet metal tools, operate mini cranes, and much more. Additionally, they get to meet and greet union hiring managers and developers for potential career placement
