Year-End Wrap Up

2024-2025 Collective Impact Update

As we wrap up this fiscal year, we’re filled with deep gratitude for how far we’ve come — and for every partner, donor, volunteer, and advocate who helped us get here. Last year, we introduced our Community Game Plan, a long-range roadmap shaped by the voices and needs of Florence County. This year, we proudly took the next bold step in bringing that plan to life.

For the first time ever, our community investment process was hosted entirely online — and with a sharper, more intentional focus. Rather than distributing funds broadly, we adopted a deep-not-wide approach, investing in 8 high-impact organizations whose work aligns directly with our shared goals in education, health, and financial stability. These strategic investments are concentrated in four critical areas: activities for youth, mental health, basic needs, and home rehabilitation. We're especially excited to grow this work even further next year, with plans to expand funding opportunities to include our 0–4 early education impact area.

This funding cycle marks a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to the Collective Impact model — a framework that recognizes lasting change happens when communities work together toward a common goal. Whether you’ve supported us through partnership, advocacy, generosity, or simply by following along — thank you. We’re proud to share this year’s progress with you and look ahead to all we’ll continue to build together.

Field Fastener’s Golf Playday Raises Over $20,000 for United Way

Field Fastener’s annual Golf Playday was a huge success this year — raising a staggering $23,550 to support United Way of Florence County, making large strides from the $13,771 raised last year. Held at The Country Club of South Carolina, the tournament brought out 28 teams and several generous sponsors. It was a beautiful (and quite windy) day full of friendly competition, community spirit, and a shared commitment to making Florence County even stronger.

This spring tradition wouldn’t be possible without Field Fastener, who not only hosts the event each year but truly leads with heart. Rich Rowlett, Field’s General Manager and a proud member of our United Way of Florence County board, has been a tireless champion for our mission. “Having an event where people can come have fun, play some golf, and learn how the United Way supports the people of Florence County is a great day in my eyes,” Rowlett said.

We’re so grateful to everyone who played, sponsored, and supported this year’s event. Because of you, more families in our community will have access to the resources they need to thrive.

We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors for helping make this year’s Golf Playday our most successful yet.

Barriers to Employment Program Recap

Since its launch at the start of our fiscal year, our Barriers to Employment Program helped 19 clients overcome critical obstacles standing between them and a steady paycheck. With just $8,521 in targeted assistance — covering needs like uniforms, car repairs, and housing — our clients saw an estimated $438,320 total increase in annual income. That’s an average boost of $1,923 each month per household.

The most common barriers our clients faced included the cost of workwear, reliable transportation, housing support, and childcare — everyday needs that can make or break someone’s path to employment.

These results are a powerful reminder: small investments can create life-changing outcomes. Learn more about how the program works and its impact at uwflorence.org/barriers-to-employment.

Want to Get Involved?

United Way of Florence County is looking for a passionate, community-driven volunteer to lead our Barriers to Employment program.

As the lead volunteer, you'll play a vital role in connecting soon-to-be employees with the support they need to succeed. Responsibilities include client intake and follow-up, leading community outreach efforts, and collaborating closely with our Director of Community Impact and Marketing to ensure the program reaches those who need it most.

If that sounds like too much to take on alone, feel free to bring a friend and lead together! We’re happy to support a co-volunteer model to make the role even more rewarding and manageable.

Know someone perfect for the role — or think it might be you? Email jfulmer@uwflorence.org or call 843-662-2407 for more information.

New ALICE Report Just Released: See How Florence County Families Are Really Doing

On May 22, United For ALICE released the latest State of ALICE in South Carolina report — and the findings are striking. Nearly half of all households in Florence County (49%) were living below the ALICE Threshold in 2023. That includes families who are working — often in essential roles — but still unable to afford basic needs like housing, childcare, and healthcare.

This updated data sheds light on just how many people in our community are walking a financial tightrope, and why traditional poverty measures don’t tell the full story.

Explore the new data and interactive dashboards at UnitedForALICE.org/South-Carolina.
